Founded in 2017, Misunderstood Brands is well-known for its Misunderstood Whiskey and OATRAGEOUS Oat Milk Liqueur. Recently, the brand announced the launch of its first-ever bourbon whiskey. But it didn’t want to release just another unremarkable bourbon. Instead, the brand opted to add a little extra flavor.

It’s called Misunderstood Orange Blossom Bourbon, and it’s precisely what the name suggests. It’s a 99% corn-based small-batch bourbon distilled at Ross & Squibb Distillery (MGP) in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. It’s blended with the essence of pure blossom honey. Like all of Misunderstood’s products, this new whiskey is made without any artificial colors or flavorings. To make it, the brand partnered with Dutch Gold Honey, which harvests its honey in the US, Brazil, and Mexico.

According to the brand, the result is a complex, balanced 80-proof whiskey loaded with flavors like toasted vanilla beans, orange blossom honey, and a hint of citrus peel.

“We’ve spent the last two years perfecting this release because we believe flavored whiskey deserves a new perspective,” Chris Buglisi, Co-Founder & CFO of Misunderstood Brands, says.

“Orange Blossom Bourbon embodies our mission to redefine the category – way less sugar, better quality, and a natural flavor profile that enhances rather than overpowers. It’s an approachable bourbon for newcomers and really anyone who enjoys an Old Fashioned, especially in the warmer weather.”

Pouring a glass of whiskey

When you first get into whiskey, nobody will fault you for simply pouring your go-to bourbon, rye, single malt Scotch whisky, or other random whiskey style into a glass and taking a sip without going through all the fanfare of an expert whiskey taster. There’s nothing wrong with that. Even if you want to add ice, I won’t tell you that you’re wrong. Everyone gets started in their own way.

I’ve been writing about alcohol for almost two decades, and I started drinking whiskey the same way as many of you. The first whiskey I drank neat was Jameson Irish whiskey, which I received as a gift. Before that, most (if not all) of my experience drinking whiskey was as a base for a cocktail.
