The holidays are a wonderful time for catching up with family and friends, but they can be stressful too. Particularly if you’re hosting and you’re planning to cook, then you likely won’t have much time to dedicate to make individual cocktails for each of your guests. And that can feel like a shame, as the great joy in making drinks is getting to share them with other people.

However, there is a solution to this hosting dilemma, and it’s pre-batching your drinks ahead of time. If you plan in advance you can make your drinks before your guests even arrive, then have a pitcher or punch bowl from which people can help themselves. It’s a fun and low-stress way to make drinks for a crowd, and you just need to make sure you pick an appropriate drink for batching. Stay away from anything with cream or dairy that could go off, and opt for easy crowd-pleasing seasonal flavors like apple, cinnamon, and maple syrup.

The question of "Can coffee really be good for you?" sparks an age-old debate, yet the answer to this question has changed since the emergence of functional coffee in recent years.

Coffee, a daily ritual that feels essential, can sometimes work against your health goals, leading to jitters, digestive issues, and energy crashes. Why Licor 43 is one of the most intriguing liqueurs on the shelf
Everything you've ever wanted to know about Licor 43
Licor 43

If you ever find yourself perusing the aisles at your local alcohol retailer, you’re bound to run into a few mysterious-sounding liqueurs, bitters, and other cocktail ingredients. One of the most intriguing is the golden-hued, very mystifying Licor 43.

If you’re anything like me, the first time you saw this Spanish liqueur, you were scratching your head and wondering what exactly it is. I’ve been writing about alcohol for nearly two decades, and I’ve come across many random liqueurs. Few were more mysterious when I first laid eyes on it than Licor 43. In its futuristic, brightly colored bottle, it resembles something that would be the backdrop of a science fiction movie, such as ‘Blade Runner’ or ‘Demolition Man.’

Steaks on grill

Here’s the thing about that steakhouse crust everyone obsesses over: it’s not the rub, it’s not the “secret marinade,” and it’s definitely not about butter-basting like you’re auditioning for Food Network. The truth is way simpler, and way less glamorous: cold, dry air. Before your ribeye ever meets flame, the fridge does the heavy lifting.

If you’ve ever pulled a steak off the grill only to find it looks more steamed than seared, you’ve already learned the hard way what surface moisture does.
