Worn Out Wednesday – Roman Roth

Today we speak to German winemaker Roman Roth.

I was born in Rottweil, Germany. My father was a cooper, winemaker and distiller; he and my mother started a wine merchant business. I grew up in a wonderful family and was fortunate to learn at an early age about fine wine and good food.   I started my career in winemaking as an apprentice, got a master’s degree and gained further experience working in California and Australia. In 1992, I followed the call from Christian Wölffer to become the winemaker at Wölffer Estate Vineyard. My stylish wife, Dushy, and I relocated to the Hamptons and 20 years later I became a partner in the business with co-owners, siblings Marc and Joey Wölffer. Together, we are looking forward to making many great wines.

As for his personal style:

Jeans: Gap

Shirts: Lacoste polos for work, H&M for casual wear, Bavarian Trachten shirts for formal occasions

Pants: H&M, Gap or J.Crew chinos, lederhosen!

Suits: I rarely need one, but when I do: Ermenegildo Zegna

Shoes: Haferl

Hats: Aussie Oilskin, straw hat from 1995 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, Bavarian Trachten hat with Gamsbart, Panama hat by Metier

Outerwear: Bavarian Loden jacket and trench for formal wear, Barbour for casual

Favorite Cologne: I rarely wear cologne so as not to interfere with wine-tasting. But my wife likes Terre d’Hermes…and therefore, so do I!

Your favorite App: Dark Sky weather app

Favorite piece of technology: Forklift, ski lift, the “recline” button in Business Class

Next tech purchase: Screwcap application machine (for the bottling line); an old Mercedes

We tested out the dryrobe to see if it’s worth your money
Whether you're a surfer, a skier, or just someone who likes to stay warm and dry, this review is for you
A model wearing the dryrobe.

There's a new all-weather jacket out there, and it's pretty unusual. The dryrobe, a changing robe and jacket all in one, dropped earlier this year. The versatile garment was designed with surfers and bad weather in mind, but it's great for a variety of adventures, especially in the midst of winter rain and snow.

It may not be your cup of tea if you don't engage in aquatic activities, but it's a flexible enough piece of clothing that there should be broader appeal. Skiers, snowboarders, foul weather hikers, wakeboarders, and more can join surfers in a shared interest of the dryrobe when they need a, well, dry robe. Even those who jog in the cold rain or play soccer on muddy fields should take note of this utilitarian garment.

John Mayer, G-Shock, and Hodinkee Watch Collab Sells Out in Just Minutes… Again
The G-Shock Ref. 6900-PT80, the second collaboration with guitarist John Mayer.

As a high-end celebrity, guitarist John Mayer tends not to be limited in his watch-collecting hobby. Whether it be a $130,000 platinum Patek Philippe 5270G chronograph or a more accessible $13,000 IWC ‘Big Pilot,’ Mayer has shown that he’s moved more by style than by luxury or exclusivity.

Take Mayer’s recent team-up with classic watchmaker Casio G-Shock and horology website Hodinkee. On December 14, the trio released the second retro keyboard-inspired G-Shock wristwatch. To get your hands on the piece, though, you’re going to have to find it on the secondary market as the originally $180 piece sold out in just minutes.
