The use of augmented reality isn’t new in the world of shopping. Industries like eyewear have used the technology to enable shoppers to get a closer look at what they’ll be purchasing. While this technology is still finding its place for shoppers, another brand is utilizing virtual reality to give users a peek into their custom designs. Hockerty, known for its ability to bring custom pieces to the hands of shoppers, is bringing virtual reality to life for those looking to preview their custom shoes before placing an order. While the technology can’t promise a perfect fit, it can give shoppers a glimpse into what they can expect after making their customizations and choices. As technology becomes more prevalent, likely, more iterations will soon appear on similar sites.

With the touch of a few buttons, users can utilize their smartphones to create custom footwear by selecting from various materials, colors, and style options. So far, this technology can help develop seven different styles, including four low-top and three running shoe options. Dressier options, such as a sneaker-inspired wingtip shoe, are also available for the VR technology. After selecting from the options, users can choose to have their footwear personalized by adding laser engraving or perforated initials to the design. Once finished, customers just need to point the camera toward their feet and see their creations come to life. Without the need for any extra apps or tabs, this technology enables users to visualize how their designs will appear in the real world, rather than just on a computer screen.
