Iveco’s Daily Switch is ready to work during the week, and play on the weekends

It's like an ultra-versatile, mobile Swiss Army rig for today's work-from-anywhere vanlifer crowd.

The best camper vans are all about versatility. If you’re a part of the WFA (that would be work from anywhere) gang, you need a mobile rig that you can live in, work out of, and use as a base camp for whatever outdoor adventures you’re into. Few camper vans fill that niche, like Iveco’s all-new Daily Switch 4×4.

The new-for-2024 campervan was revealed at this year’s Dusseldorf Caravan Show, and it’s a beauty. The Daily Switch’s simplicity is what sets it apart from most other models on the market, with an intentional “blank slate” design allowing buyers to trick out the interior in whatever way fits their adventurous lifestyle.

It’s designed as an open-concept cabin with gobs of airline rails ready to be outfitted with any of several modular inserts. Buyers could say, remove every module during the week to make room for the DS to serve as a work van and use the rails to secure tools, supplies, and other materials. When the weekend rolls around, the various camp-friendly modules install in a snap, so it’s ready to play off-pavement. That includes things like a bed, a camp kitchen, a folding table, swivel seats, a compact toilet, and storage pockets wherever you need them. Plus, the flagship model boasts a permanent pop-top camper. It’s like a mobile Swiss Army knife for the WFA crowd.

Darkened side windows, a diesel heater, and fully insulated walls and ceiling are standard, giving this the potential of a true four-season rig. A non-slip wood-look floor is likewise included, giving the DS a simple, modern look. A moveable cargo net/partition wall provides flexibility for dividing the living quarters or securing gear, pets, and other essentials at the rear of the cabin. Plus, the standard electrical package features a 130Ah AGM battery with a 20-amp charger and a 650-watt inverter. It’s all connected to numerous residential, 12-volt, and USB sockets throughout the rig, ensuring you can keep your laptop, cameras, GoPros, or mobile gaming PCs powered on the go. Bonus: It also comes prewired for solar, cable, and a shore power connection.

The flagship Daily Switch 4×4 is plenty off-road capable, too. It’s powered by Ivesco’s own 173 PS 3-liter turbodiesel. As the name implies, it boasts full-time all-wheel-drive with triple locking differentials and a reduction gearbox. The beefy chassis rides on 265/70 R19 off-road tires. All-in, it’s a setup that’s built to take you far, far off-pavement.

Many of the past year’s best camper van and travel trailer models seem to be coming from overseas, and the Iveco Daily Switch is no different. The base model Daily Switch 4×2 starts at €76,990 (around $80,000), while the kitted-out 4×4 version will set you back more than €138K (close to $150,000). While that ain’t cheap, it does get you one of the most versatile off-the-rack camper vans on the market today. The only catch is you’ll, of course, need to budget in transportation costs to ship it Stateside.

TAXA Outdoors Woolly Bear: Best for rugged minimalists

For minimalist campers looking to bring everything they need and nothing they don't, the 2025 Woolly Bear is damn-near-perfect. At less than 11 feet long and roughly 1,300 pounds, it's ridiculously easy to tow with just about anything short of a Harley. The clever design manages to pack a full camp kitchen, tons of outdoor gear storage, and room for a two- or even three-person rooftop tent. It's also endlessly customizable with a mosquito net outdoor room, a propane package, aftermarket portable power stations, and more. The stock version is already plenty off-road capable, but upgrading to the Overland Edition gets you a Timbren axle-less suspension, electric brakes, and all-terrain tires with steel wheels.

Get the details on Coast's Model 1 solar electric trailer

From afar, the exterior of the Model 1 has the same recognizable silhouette as many of today's premium travel trailers. But, decked in jet black or two-tone black-on-white (it's also available in all white), it feels sleeker, more modern, more ... premium. The glossy shell appears vaguely futuristic, a hint of the solar-heavy tech that lies beneath. The genuine composite structure is made by, in Coast's words, "combining differing fully recyclable, re-purposable, and environmentally friendly natural components [that are] virtually waterproof."
