San Diego-based Stone Brewing has seen considerable growth over the last few years. Its recent successes include the announcement of an East Coast location in Richmond, Virginia, the launch of a successful brewpub in Berlin, Germany, and overcoming the logistical hurdles of its “Enjoy By” series, allowing them to supply extremely fresh beer throughout Stone’s large distribution area.

There are no signs of Stone slowing down in 2018. To prove its commitment to craft beer fans, the brewery has released a 2018 release calendar showcasing old favorites and brand-new beer offerings.

The year-round beer list includes the return of Stone IPA, Delicious IPA, Tangerine Express IPA, Ripper San Diego Pale Ale, Go To IPA, and Ruination Double IPA. In May, Ruination Double IPA will change from recipe version 2.0 to an all new version 3.0. Another new brew, Scorpion Bowl IPA, will join the year-rounders’ club in February.

Stone’s “Hop Worship” series will debut in 2018 in canned six packs as well as draft with the new beers Exalted, Righteous, and Sanctimonious running February to December. Exalted is the first to hit shelves and features Loral and Citra hops.

New 22-ounce bottle releases include the Double IPAs Loral &Dr. Rudi’s Inevitable Adventure (February), I’m Peach (May), and 22nd Anniversary (August). Also debuting in large format bottles is Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout. Stone W00tstout and Xocoveza Mocha Stout will return from last year.

The “Enjoy By” series of fresh IPAs is back for 2018 and will mark the holidays with dated-titles recognizing April 20 (4/20), the Fourth of July, Halloween, and Christmas.

Stone’s 2018 beer release calendar is certainly hop heavy, steering hard toward India Pale Ales, but that’s just Stone playing into its reputation and expertise. However, with so many new recipes for the new year, the brewery is intent on introducing change and growth, trusting its army of faithful fans to go along for the ride.

Boulevard Brewing Brings Tech N9ne’s Caribou Lou to Life as a Craft Beer

When two employees at Boulevard Brewing Company thought about brewing a beer for American rapper Tech N9ne, they took matters into their own hands and reached out.  To their surprise, the rapper’s label company, Strange Music, got back to them soon after and they roped in hip hop fan and Boulevard digital marketing manager Pat Mullin to help get the full brewery on board.
“As soon as I heard about it, I made it my goal to see it through and make it happen,” Mullin said. “It was a long process.”

Before too terribly long, however, a meeting of the minds was held and Tech N9ne was visiting the Boulevard brewery and it was time to determine what beer to make.
“We all knew we wanted to make a homage to Caribou Lou, his signature drink, what better than to play off of it,” Mullin said.

How to Host a Bottle Share: 5 Tips for Planning Your First Beer Tasting
Beer flight tasting types

With thousands of amazing breweries spread across the globe already open (with more on the horizon) and a constantly expanding range of styles from which to choose, it’s impossible to drink all of the world’s great beers. Attending beer festivals or ordering flights from breweries are great ways to expand your knowledge and palate. These opportunities provide several small pours of beer instead of the traditional method of ordering full-size glasses. More variety for the same quantity, if you will.

An alternative to festivals and flights is organizing a bottle share, otherwise known as your own mini beer festival.

Alcohol doesn’t fit into Bill Shufelt’s life, but the ultramarathoner and former finance professional didn’t want to be left out. With less than stellar non-alcoholic beers on the market, though, he couldn't find anything appealing to drink.

So rather than remain on the sidelines, he found a longtime brewer, John Walker, and together they started Connecticut-based Athletic Brewing Co., a beer company focused on making flavorful non-alcoholic beers.
