On Your Feet is all about that new shoe feeling- from the first time you open the box until they’re worn into the ground. Sometimes we’ll sift through the constant Air Jordan releases to bring you the gems other people will leave on the shelves, and sometimes we’ll slide on reclaimed leather loafers from Prague, but we’ll always focus on comfortable shoes with appealing and creative aesthetic. So lace up your new kicks and stand on the precipice of adventure, where will we go together?

With high-tech woven materials and special polymer outsoles on the rise, it’s always refreshing to see a pair of sneakers that focuses on preserving a clean aesthetic with high quality, classic materials. CLAE’s shoes may feel reminiscent of classic styles, but they feel new and more durable, a fresh take on an old favorite. CLAE was founded in 2001, taking the comfort of athletic shoes and improving them with high quality materials and clean colorways, while still allowing them to move and breathe like sneakers. They’ve got a couple of new models that will easily find their way into your closet.

The Robinson lives a dual life – a boot hiding in a high-top’s body, so you can move like you’re wearing sneakers wherever your adventures take you. The full grain leather upper is pebbled to give it a beautiful texture, but also to protect the material and keep it clean. The tongue is made of neoprene for flexibility and breathability without sacrificing too much weight. As you move further down the shoe, it gets sturdier, keeping your foot locked in with a TPU heel cup and a thick EVA outsole so you never have to stop.

The Carter wears all the signs of a classic low-top skate shoe, with a flexible, breathable upper and a flat, textured outsole. It feels a bit dressier on feet than it looks though, so you can wear it out to the bars or on casual Friday at the office. Black waxed canvas and cotton keeps your feet dry and protected no matter how crazy your afternoon gets, and will be wearable well into the rainy season.

CLAE’s line is all about pairing simple layouts with high quality materials, wrapping the whole experience around a familiar base. Their shoes are built with a focus on versatility without sacrificing comfort, traits that we love to see in quality footwear.

Adidas

The brand behind the iconic three stripes started as a sportswear company that has since evolved into a lifestyle empire. Adidas first changed the game with its simplistic Stan Smith styles featuring an all-white leather upper and bright heel tab. By tapping catalysts like Kanye West to head the Yeezy collection, Adidas has safely secured its place in culture. Most recently, Adidas onboarded Fear of God’s Jerry Lorenzo as the head of its basketball division, as well as the newly formed Fear of God Athletics.

5 Sneaker Alternatives to Your Go-to Vans and Converse
Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 shoes

Cons, Converse, Chuck Taylors, All Stars, Chucks — the sneakers that go by many nicknames have been a staple of American footwear since the 1960s. The ubiquitous high-top design for a time was associated with pop-punk and alternative cool before being subsumed into the mass cultural imagination as an empty signifier of individuality. Nowadays, Converse are a bit of a sartorial cliche; they’re most commonly seen on groomsmen during “quirky” weddings.

The story of Vans slip-ons, which also gained popularity in surfer and skater subcultures before becoming an inauthentic symbol of rebellion, isn’t so dissimilar. While the iconic checkerboard patterns were eye-catching for a time, it’s now easy to spot who hopped on the bandwagon only after the shoes got trendy.
