Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- Fresh mint sprigs
- Crushed ice
- Bourbon whiskey (Churchill Downs uses Old Forester Straight Bourbon)
Method
- Boil the sugar and water together for 5 minutes to make a simple syrup. Allow it to cool, and then place it in a covered container with 6 to 8 mint sprigs and refrigerate it overnight.
- Fill a julep cup with crushed ice and add 1 tablespoon of mint syrup and 2 ounces of bourbon.
- Garnish with fresh mint sprig and serve.
