When you think of coffee cocktails, there’s one drink that stands out immediately: the Espresso Martini. But there are plenty of other ways to incorporate coffee into your cocktails, and recently there has been a TikTok trend for sweet, dessert-like coffee cocktails.

If you fancy trying some of these out for yourself, Patrick Pistolesi, master mixologist at NIO Cocktails, has shared tips on how to recreate some of the most popular viral TikTok-inspired coffee cocktails at home.

Cherry coffee cocktail

“Cherry and coffee make an unexpected and delicious pairing. The balance of bold, deep espresso with a fruity twist creates a unique and enjoyable flavor experience,” Pistolesi says.

“To make this, brew a shot of espresso and let it cool. Then, mix it with a cherry-infused bourbon and a splash of cherry syrup before shaking it over ice. Strain this mixture into a glass and then garnish with a cherry.”

Dubai chocolate coffee cocktail

“This cocktail is a combination of creamy pistachio with rich chocolate for a dessert-like cocktail experience,” Pistolesi says.

“First you’ll want to start with making a chocolate-infused espresso by simply stirring dark chocolate into hot espresso until it’s smooth. Then, shake it with a pistachio and a coffee liquor, pouring it into a glass over ice. Finish with a dust of chocolate powder and even some crushed pistachios to garnish.”

Iced Cuban coffee cocktail

“Iced lattes are such a consistent trend so I wanted to create something bold and sweet,” Pistolesi said.

“To make it, brew a fresh shot of Cuban espresso and let it cool. Then, mix it with a dark rum and a splash of vanilla syrup before pouring it over ice. Add cold milk, or a milk alternative, and finish it off with a sprinkle of cinnamon dust.”

Give your gimlet a herbal twist with this vodka cocktail
Ghost Hill Organic Vodka

The Gimlet is one of those cocktails that is so simple and such a classic that it's easily overlooked. Whilst I lean toward a Gin Gimlet (and I have strong feelings like it should be made with fresh lime juice and sugar syrup rather than a pre-made lime cordial), you can also experiment with different spirits such as the also popular Vodka Gimlet.

The simple recipe is ripe for experimentation though, and especially when you are working with vodka, you have a lot of leeway to incorporate other ingredients to add more interest and unique personality to your drink. This recipe from Ghost Hill Organic Vodka showcases the smooth and clean notes of the spirit while also allowing space for the other ingredients to shine -- not only lime juice and simple syrup, but also the addition of sage leaves for a more herbal note.

Spritz season is here, and you should try a Lillet Spritz
Lillet

The arrival of the warm months means one thing for drinks fans: it's spritz time. Whether you love or hate the Aperol Spritz -- or just think it's overrated -- there's no getting away from the ubiquitous orange drinks that pop up everywhere at this time of year. Whilst I am an Aperol defender (I don't care if it's not trendy any more, it's still delicious) I also love to try a variety of spritzes, as the combination of sparkling wine plus liqueur is one that lends itself to all sorts of options.

One of my favorite summer drinks is a spritz variation which uses Lillet Blanc, a bracing quinine-infused aperitif which has a light and bright character but also a hefty bitterness which I love, and which I find sets off the sweetness of a Prosecco really well. I like to combine equal parts of Lillet Blanc and fizzy water, then add in a large ice cube and an absolute ton of cucumber slices. The fresh notes of the cucumber really brighten up the drink.
