New research from Faye Travel Insurance reveals where Americans are traveling in 2025, and how much they’re spending. While Europe remains the most popular destination overall, the priciest vacations are taking Americans much farther from home.
Topping the list is Rwanda, where the average trip runs an eye-popping $18,417. The East African country is best known for its once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking, but travelers are also booking luxury safari getaways and bespoke itineraries through high-end companies like Black Tomato. Their “Ultimate Rwanda” trip takes guests deep into the jungle for a nine-night adventure with endangered wildlife.
Resorts such as One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, Singita Kwitonda Lodge, and Bisate Lodge are adding to the allure – and the price tag.
In second place is the Seychelles, an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. With overwater villas, white-sand beaches, and fine dining at every turn, the average American vacationer spends $15,775 here.
Botswana rounds out the top three at $15,619 per trip, thanks to luxury safari lodges and exclusive wildlife experiences.
While Africa dominates the high-spending list, Americans are still flocking to Europe in 2025. About 75% of U.S. travelers are heading across the pond, spending an average of $5,832. The top five picks overall include Italy, France, the UK, Mexico, and Germany.
