In the world of whiskey collaborations, you’ll have a tough time beating the new partnership between Vermont’s renowned WhistlePig Whiskey and Liquid Death. It’s called WhistlePig GraveStock Wheat Whiskey, and it’s matured with a spooky twist.

This limited-edition collaboration is a wheat whiskey matured in American oak. But instead of the usual barrel or cask, it’s aged in oak caskets before being proofed down using Liquid Death Mountain Water.

“Many bottled water brands are just processed municipal tap water, but our Liquid Death Mountain Water comes from real American mountain ranges that produce some of the best water in the world,” Greg Fass, VP of Marketing at Liquid Death, says.

“Proofing an already delicious WhistlePig whiskey with our premium mountain-sourced water is the type of attention to detail that should take this bottle to the next level.”

While the whiskey itself is noteworthy, let’s return to the aging vessel. In the most metal way possible, it’s aged in a literal casket.

“The custom casket-shaped foeders where GraveStock Wheat Whiskey finds its final resting place are the first of their kind, and a bucket list experiment we – literally – went big on!,” Meghan Ireland, Head Blender at WhistlePig says.

“They add character in a subtle way that lets the nuance of the wheat whiskey shine. Wheat’s softness and easy style is rounded out with bright notes of honeysuckle, biscotti, and butterscotch.”

Whiskey in a glass

So, you splurged and bought that expensive bottle of whiskey you’ve eyed every time you stopped by your local liquor store to grab a new bottle of Elijah Craig Small Batch or Knob Creek 9 Year. If I’ve learned anything in the almost 20 years I’ve been writing professionally about alcohol, it’s that good things (whiskey) come to those who wait.

You waited and finally forked over the few hundred dollars (or more) that were required to get your hands on that highly sought-after, hard-to-find small batch bourbon — after all, the time was right to treat yourself. Maybe it’s your birthday, or perhaps you’re simply hosting a party and want to look like a baller. For whatever reason, you purchased an expensive bottle of whiskey. What now? Well, I'll tell you what you never do with that expensive whiskey.
