This espresso machine made my daily coffee run feel kind of pointless

Say goodbye to your local barista

Eletta Explore
De'Longhi

You know the scene: you’re standing in line at your favorite café, scrolling your phone, hoping the barista spells your name right this time. Ten minutes and $6 later, you’re finally sipping that perfectly foamed latte you’ve been craving all morning.

But what if I told you that same latte, plus cold brew, iced cappuccinos, and espresso shots worthy of a hipster roastery, could be yours at home, anytime you want, with the push of a button?

Enter the De’Longhi Eletta Explore: a fully automatic espresso machine that’s quietly making my daily café visits feel, well, kind of unnecessary. It’s that good. And honestly? My favorite coffee shop might be in trouble.

First impressions & setup

Right out of the box, the De’Longhi Eletta Explore looks like it means business. It’s sleek, modern, and has the kind of premium design that makes it feel more like a luxury appliance than a coffee machine.

The setup is also ridiculously easy. You basically plug it in, and the touchscreen takes over with clear, step-by-step prompts. Even if you’re not tech-savvy, you’ll be brewing in no time. I had my first cup within 15 minutes.

You can create separate profiles for different family members, which is great if everyone has their own go-to drink. You can even pair it with the De’Longhi app and fire up your latte from bed.

Drink variety & performance

The Eletta Explore truly delivers when it comes to drink variety. It’s like having a personal barista on call. With 50+ hot and cold recipes, you can whip up everything from quick espressos and creamy cappuccinos to iced lattes, cold brews, and even delicious iced cappuccinos. The Cold Brew and Cold Foam features are standouts (and one of my favorite parts of the machine).

Customization is where this machine really shines. You can fine-tune temperature, coffee strength, and milk texture, thanks to its Hot & Cold Foam Technology. The LatteCrema™ Hot System creates perfectly textured milk for warm drinks, while the LatteCrema™ Cool System delivers smooth, cold foam that feels straight out of a café.

Add in a built-in conical burr grinder with 13 settings and a fast heat-up time, and you’ve got a machine that absolutely nails what most people go to a coffee shop for.

Quality, taste & cost comparison

So how does the Eletta Explore stack up against your favorite café? Honestly, it’s shockingly close (if not better). My go-to is a vanilla latte, hot or iced, and after playing around with the size and intensity settings, I’ve managed to get the perfect latte every single time. The foam is smooth and the espresso is rich and balanced. I’m also incredibly impressed with the cold brew system, as I’ve always failed to make the perfect cold brew myself.

The LatteCrema™ system froths milk like a pro and even cleans itself after each use. You can also detach the carafe and store leftover milk in the fridge, which is a huge bonus.

At $1,999.95, the Eletta Explore isn’t cheap. But if you’re spending $5-6 per drink, it pays for itself in under a year, and that’s without factoring in the time saved, the freedom to customize, and skipping the tip jar.

Considerations & final verdict

Like any luxury appliance, the Eletta Explore comes with a few trade-offs. First, the obvious: it’s not cheap. At around $2,000, the upfront cost is steep. It’s also a large machine, so if you have limited counter space, be ready to rearrange.

There’s some cleaning and maintenance involved as well. Nothing too intense, but more than just rinsing a pod. And while the drinks are incredible, you may find yourself missing the café ambiance (and your favorite barista’s latte art).

That said, if you’re after quality, consistency, and convenience, this machine delivers. It won’t replace your local coffee shop entirely, but it’ll definitely make it harder to justify the trip.

The easiest ways to make hazelnut coffee that actually taste great
3 methods to enjoy hazelnut flavor in your coffee
Cup of coffee

When I think of classic flavored coffee, hazelnut is one of the first flavors that comes to mind. Hazelnut coffee is almost like my version of comfort food, except in coffee form. The slightly nutty, sweet taste of hazelnut works perfectly, whether it's a regular hot coffee or an iced coffee. You can find hazelnut coffee at almost any coffee shop, but it's also super easy to make at home. Here's how to make hazelnut coffee in three ways.

Drinking this coffee could increase your blindness risk by 700%
Should you rethink your coffee choice?
instant coffee

We all have our coffee preferences, but this recent study could have you rethinking your favorite coffee choice. A recent study published in the journal Food Science & Nutrition found that instant coffee drinkers could be at increased risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a condition associated with blindness. The study analyzed data collected from over 500,000 individuals, concluding that instant coffee drinkers may be at an increased risk of developing AMD. The most common type of AMD, known as dry AMD, is a leading cause of vision loss in older adults and does not currently have a cure. This condition affects a small region in the back of the retina, causing damage that can lead to blurry spots and a loss of vision over time.

The complex study identified an overlap between a person's genetic disposition towards drinking instant coffee and their risk for dry AMD. Within this genetic correlation, the study suggests that drinking instant coffee (compared to other types of coffee) could increase the risk of developing dry AMD by about 700 times. This research provides new insight into AMD pathogenesis, offering a potential next step for researchers to contribute to personalized prevention strategies such as genetically informed lifestyle interventions. The study did not find any correlation between instant coffee and wet AMD.
