Last Minute Stocking Stuffer Beers

It’s the night before Christmas and all through the house, shouts of obscenities ring out because you forgot to buy someone a gift.

Luckily for you, nothing pairs better with holiday gifting than craft beer. I’ve never met a person who was disappointed by receiving free beer, even if it’s the typical, everyday “shelf” beer that can be found year round.

If you don’t have the access or the funds to acquire any limited release, seasonal or high-dollar vanity brews but still want to make a quality craft beer gift, these selections are easy to find with wide national distribution and will help the holidays go down easy.

Witbiers are equally fantastic for summertime refreshment as spicing up a cold winter’s night. Ommegang’s take is classically inspired with a bright effervescence, bubbling on top of clove, lemon and sweet orange.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA
A true “hop bomb,” Torpedo is dry hopped for an aggressive, front-loaded beer designed for fans of all things bitter. Its tropical fruit and piney flavors only enhance the experience.

Lagunitas A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale
A hoppy wheat beer unlike any other, A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ bridges the gap between raw, earthy hops and smooth, sweet malts to forge a surprisingly balanced brew that’s challenging but not overly aggressive.

Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0
With a revamped take on a Stone flagship beer, Ruination 2.0 is a high ABV stunner. It’s a boozy, burly IPA that squeezes every ounce of aroma and flavor from its plentiful contribution of hops.

Rogue Chocolate Stout
The holidays go hand-in-hand with chocolate. Instead of another box of mix sweets, substitute this dessert beer from Portland’s Rogue Brewing. The tasting highlights are an oat-like malt base and a truffle finish.

Anchor Old Foghorn
Barleywines are an underestimated addition to the craft beer drinker’s repertoire. In the US, few have been making it as long as Anchor, and its decades of experience are evident in Old Foghorn, an ideal cold weather sipper.

This Christmas, when you’re settling in for a long winter’s nap, rest easy knowing that delicious beer gifts can still be hung by the chimney with care, even if you waited until the last minute.

Candied pecans are good on everything and make a great last minute gift: Here’s how to make them
Candied pecans are the perfect holiday treat
Candied pecans

Candied pecans are one of those things that improve just about everything. Toss them into a mixed greens or creamy chicken salad. Crumble them up and mix them with homemade butterscotch sauce for the best ice cream or pie topping you've ever had. Nestle them in with fruits and cheeses on your holiday charcuterie board, or serve them by themselves alongside your favorite champagne cocktails. Alternatively, you could always just eat them straight off the counter as they cool because you lack the patience and the willpower to let them make it further than that. However you enjoy them, candied pecans are an incredibly delicious and very versatile ingredient that's wonderful to have in the cupboard, especially during the holiday season.

Perhaps the best thing about these sweet little nuts is that they're almost stupidly easy to make. A few simple ingredients go into a pot and come out having combined to make something magical. Plus, making a big batch of these will make your house smell like Mrs. Claus' kitchen, so don't blame us if the neighbors come knocking for an impromptu holiday chit-chat.

Ski beer

Winter is almost here and all the snow-covered, wintry activities that it entails. We’re talking about snow tubing down seemingly treacherous hills, sibling snowball fights galore, countless snow angels, and days spent downhill skiing and snowboarding. But while the latter is a great wintertime activity on its own, it’s even better when you add in the après-ski component.

Don’t know what après ski is? Well, it’s a French phrase that literally translates to "after skiing." But instead of simply lounging and resting your aching joints after navigating every hill and completing an eight-hour lift pass (or simply after a few runs), après ski is all about the after-skiing (or snowboarding) social activities. And by social activities, we’re talking exclusively about boozy drinks.

Pint of beer

If you’re not a giant beer drinker and your only experience with alcoholic beverages is through advertisements, you would probably assume that there are no beers even remotely as popular as classic Budweiser and Bud Light. But according to a recent poll, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, according to YouGov Ratings, neither of these beers is even in the top ten.

If you don’t know what YouGov is, it’s an online research and analytics technology group. It was created as a way to find out what Americans think about a variety of topics. They do this by getting 24 million responses and counting on the various topics from products, to companies, and even celebrities.
