Ovrlnd gets “girthy” with the new, extra-wide Chubby truck camper package

With more sleeping and standing room, it's one of the most livable-yet-compact truck campers we've seen.

Truck campers are the ultimate streamlined solution for overlanders. But the svelte, trail-friendly form factor means trading agility for living space. Ovrlnd Campers wants to remedy the typically cramped living quarters of most truck campers with a wider, more livable interior.

New for 2025, the Flagstaff, Arizona-based brand is adding a Chubby package to its lineup. By extending the width of any of its existing truck camper models by 3.5 inches on either side, the interior width expands by a full seven inches. That might not seem like much. But if you’ve spent any time living in your car or out of the back of a pickup truck, those extra seven inches feel downright luxurious.

The big win here is the ability to really open up and better build out the interior. Adding the Chubby package to a midsize truck makes for a roughly 68-inch width, allowing anyone 5’6″ tall to sleep comfortably in an east-west configuration. For full-size truck owners, “going Chubby” means roughly 75 inches of interior width, so even taller campers can fully stretch out in bed width-wise. Standing room also increases to almost six feet in midsize pickups, while full-size owners get even more.

Ovrlnd Campers does point out a handful of limitations with this wider, girthier package. The increased weight (roughly 30-50 pounds) means more wind-buffeting on the highway. Plus, the added width means you’re more likely to hit trees and other obstacles on the trail. But isn’t all that “trail pinstriping” just part of the experience?

The Chubby package is available now across Ovrlnd’s entire model lineup. The option adds $950 to the cost of the entry-level Bivy pop-up “cube” (starting at $7,400), the semi-custom All You Can Eat model (from $8,400), and the flagship Bread ‘N’ Butter model (from $11,499) with the company’s most popular options.

Coleman looks to overthrow Yeti as the go-to cooler brand for campers
They promise to be Yeti-tough, but lighter and more affordable than the ultra-premium rotomolded competition.
Couple carrying a Coleman Pro hard-sided cooler in the outdoors.

Rotomolded coolers have long been the standard for campers, car campers, and overlanders. Yeti has been the go-to brand for such coolers for more than a decade, with an almost cult-like following. But, Coleman (yes, that Coleman) is setting its sights on dethroning the king with its all-new Coleman Pro line-up.

The Chicago-based brand has been a camper staple for more than a century, with some of the most lightweight and, most importantly, affordable coolers on the market. But it's seriously stepping up its game with the Coleman Pro line. It's "the most durable cooler we've ever engineered. We pushed it to the limit with repeated drop tests and over 1,000 hours of rugged road testing and it exceeded every expectation," said Luke Eck, Coleman's Director of Outdoor Research & Development.

Runaway Campers’ Venturist is a rugged “squaredrop” towable for minimalists
With more than 20 inches of ground clearance, this hardcore teardrop trailer has serious off-roading potential
Runaway Campers Venturist travel trailer being towed by an SUV over rocky terrain.

I'm of the school of thought that "simpler is almost always better," especially when it comes to camping. Whether it's backpacking, RV camping, or overlanding, less is often more. It's clear that Runaway Campers agrees. Case in point: It's perfectly minimalist Venturist "squaredrop" travel trailer series.

Each of the three models in the Venturist series (or "V-Series") comes standard with everything avid overlanders need and nothing they don't. That means a steel frame construction, Timbren axle-less independent suspension, electric brakes, custom fenders, and 17-inch wheels on 33-inch BFG all-terrain tires. The setup provides more than 20 inches of ground clearance. Coupled with a pint-sized footprint, this travel trailer is purpose-built to be easy to tow and maneuver along even the tightest and gnarliest of backcountry trails.

For our money, there's no better solution for overlanding than a classic truck camper. Now, Arizona's AT Overland Equipment has just debuted an all-new slide-in solution that perfectly balances weight, features, and price.

The Aterra Slide-In is the latest addition to AT Overland Equipment's Aterra series. It's designed for maximum versatility and customizability for full-sized pickup owners who want a truck camper that's exactly as dialed-in as they need it to be. The base model is merely a lightweight (roughly 750 pounds) shell — a blank canvas, if you will — designed to be the perfect starter for your DIY build. The surprisingly spacious interior offers a 6'9" standing height and a few essentials, like an RV King-sized sleeping area with a mattress, dual-pane Tern Windows, and a locking Tern rear entry door. It's all well-insulated with an R6 value and R7 for the roof.
