Castle & Key Distiller’s Blade

As beverage collabs go, here’s an unusual one: beloved Kentucky bourbon brand Castle & Key Distillery is working with premium knife company GiantMouse Knives to create a signature bourbon-inspired blade.

The Castle & Key Distiller’s Blade comes in two versions, one blue version that will be sold on its own, and one “Blackout” version that will come in a box set with a bottle of cask-strength Castle & Key Single Barrel Bourbon. The box set will be limited to 100 numbered units, with the blades and bottles having matching numbers. The set will only be available at the Castle & Key distillery shop for $400, while the blue blade can be purchased online for $325.

The unusual combo came out of the GiantMouse founders spending a few days visiting the Castle & Key distillery, where they said they were inspired by the artistry and attention to detail of the bourbon makers.

“The Castle & Key Distiller’s Blade is more than just a knife – it’s a symbol of our commitment to creating products that honor tradition while embracing modern design,” said Jim Wirth, Co- Founder and CEO of GiantMouse. “This collaboration allowed us to craft a piece that truly embodies the spirit of both GiantMouse and Castle & Key, and we’re excited to share it with our customers.”

“At Castle & Key, craftsmanship and community is at the core of everything we do,” says Brett Connors, Lead Blender, Castle & Key Distillery. “The creative minds behind GiantMouse never disappoint with their knives that are pieces of art and also tell a story. Our collaboration reinforces our dedication to research, development, production, and high-quality design that is reflective in the Kentucky spirits we produce. The Castle & Key Distiller’s Blade is a bourbon-inspired knife that is personal, functional, and truly one we will be proud to carry and use ourselves.”

A change in season calls for a chance in your beverage program. Currently, we're naturally shuffling from things like crisp session ales and bright sauvignon blanc to amaro and cocktails like the Boulevardier. Just as we put another layer over our arms and switch from shorts to pants, we add a little body and warmth to our favorite drinks.

"Cooking a delicious meal and crafting a perfect cocktail share a few similarities, one of those being relying on nature to source seasonal ingredients that will enhance flavor and curate a timely mood," said Joshua White, bartender at Death & Co. "Fall and winter season is an especially opportune time for creativity, with a plethora of herbs, spices, fruits, and vegetables to play with."

As part of the ongoing celebration of Negroni Week, now is the perfect time to try out some negroni variations. With its simple formula of equal parts of gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, the negroni is the ideal template for playing with different flavors and tweaking ingredients to make the drink your own.

The good news is that the negroni template is very flexible, so you can use just about any combination of spirit, sweeter aperitif, and bitter amaro and make something tasty. If you've got a well stocked bar and you feel like being brave, try out any combination and see how it goes.
