While chef and restaurateur Matty Matheson isn’t known for his footwear design, that didn’t stop ASICS Sportstyle from tapping him in for the release of their newest revival. Not just any revival, the launch takes on the fan-favorite ASICS Gel-Cumulus 16, an archival silhouette that finally returns to the shelves. Mixing performance technology with modern design, the relaunch gives this running shoe a brand-new look. Although the silhouette dates back to 2014, the sneaker’s newest iteration breathes life into the design with two colorways, “Cloud Grey” and “Cream,” for a statement look that also includes pops of color. First teased via Matheson’s social media platforms, the release of the new sneakers is a welcome sign for faithful fans of ASICS’ archival models.

Both iterations of the ASICS sneakers follow a similar design, with the only difference being in the accent colors and base tones. The sneaker is designed with a breathable mesh upper and synthetic leather overlays that provide a color contrast. The brand’s Gel technology inserts and underfoot cushioning provide the design’s comfort and stability properties. “Cloud Grey” is constructed with a grey mesh base contrasted by pops of blue, purple, and pink. “Cream” utilizes off-white tones for its base, while vibrant greens and pinks provide a pop of color. Both colorways will be available via ASICS’ platforms starting August 15 and will retail $140 each. Designed to be a mix of comfort and style, the revival of the archival Gel-Cumulus 16 adds another interesting option to ASICS’ lifestyle shoe lineup.
