Have a Badass Story? You Could Win $5,000 from Dragon’s Milk Stout

Have you lived a life others talk about when you’re not in the room because it’s that damn cool (like some of these guys)? Or, perhaps, you’ve been through some shit and you came out not only alive but on fire (not literally, though, as that sounds painful). Either way, if you’ve got a story to tell, you just might be able to snag a cool $5,000 for it.

From now until November 13, Dragon’s Milk, a bourbon barrel-aged stout made by New Holland Brewing Company, is running the #ShareALegend contest, a chance for people with epic stories to share them and maybe even win some cash.

Throughout the campaign, New Holland Brewing Company will release the legends of six real people who fall into specific archetypes — Warrior, Huntress, Smith, Poet, Alchemist, and Performer — to inspire contest entrants. As of publication, the Alchemist, the Poet, and the Warrior videos are up.

Dragon’s Milk - Share a Legend; The Poet

As long as you are over 21 and reside in the United States, you can submit a video online or through social media via the hashtag #ShareALegend. Once the contest closes, five semi-finalists will then be revealed for online fan voting. The winner will receive the aforementioned $5,000 as well as the ability to choose a charity (from a list created by the brand) to which Dragon’s Milk will donate an additional $5,000.

“Dragon’s Milk has been a catalyst for powerful and memorable stories, and the idea behind Share A Legend is to continue bringing people together when we are increasingly busy and distracted by all that’s going on in the world,” said Brett VanderKamp, founder and president of New Holland Brewing Company in a statement. “Over time, our stories can turn into legends, which is why we want to encourage people to share their stories, so they can live on forever.”

The broader campaign for Dragon’s Milk, according to the brand, also includes aspects of storytelling (the name Dragon’s Milk comes from a medieval-era story after all). There will be a new “Instagrammable” Table of Legends room at its Knickerbocker pub in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The room features a large communal table built by New Holland’s coopers and is meant to facility storytelling among strangers. It’s basically The Canterbury Tales, but with running water and WiFi.
