New Balance Releases Desert-Inspired 999 with Packer Shoes

For the last two decades, The 999 has been a stalwart of New Balance’s lineup.

The Boston-based shoe company has had a resurgence in recent years with refreshing takes on styles that used to skew older but are now the envy of sneakerheads across the country.

As a continuing celebration of the style’s 20th anniversary, New Balance has teamed up with legendary New York (now New Jersey) sneaker boutique Packer Shoes on the New Balance X Packer 999 “CML”.

The handsome shoe uses a variety of light colors with inspiration taken from desert landscapes. The upper is done in suede to mimic camel hair with a micro-perforated pigskin toebox and premium nubuck details on the tongue and heel tab.

The CML is ready for city wear too, with brown leather trim and a reflective 3M silver hit on the heel, meaning you’ll be seen no matter where you are. The coral, orange, and blue hues and speckled laces make it perfect for springtime (or to at least remind you that spring is eventually on its way).

This colorway is a product of a collaboration with a shoe store that’s been in business for more than 100 years. Packer started as a tiny outpost in Yonkers, NY and has grown into one of the east coast’s premier footwear retailers. It’s a family business that’s spanned three generations, keeping true to heritage and authenticity. That ethos extends to  New Balance, which is the latest in a series of brands doing exclusive releases with Packer. Past brands include rugged outdoor companies like Danner and Timberland. They also sell a variety of hard-to-find styles and releases from a number of major shoe manufacturers.

The CML is $150 and will be exclusively available through Packer’s brick and mortar and online store starting December 10.
