2025 Mercedes Benz EQG: Everything we know about the electric G Wagon

Get ready for a G-Class EV

Mercedes-Benz

Over the past few years, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled electric vehicle models such as the EQS, EQB, and EQE models. As is tradition, you also have the option to choose Mercedes-Maybach and AMG electric models to suit your taste. The AMG EQE SUV starts at $109,300, while the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will cost you around $200,000.

However, the all-electric G Wagon, dubbed the EQG, is missing from the action. The last time we caught a glimpse of it was back in 2021 as a concept car. Well, it’s expected to be produced later this year, and Mercedes-Benz teased it at the 2024 CES technology show in Las Vegas. Here is what you can expect.

It can rotate 360 degrees

One of the coolest features of the electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class is that it’s fitted with electric motors on each wheel that make it possible to turn 360 degrees. In fact, Mercedes-Benz claims that the electric G Wagon can rotate 720 degrees — and it did just that at the Las Vegas Strip. Even though it’s not practical to do the 360-degree turn on a public road, it could come in handy when you’re trying to make a three-point turn on a tight spot. Additionally, you could make an instant 90-degree turn to avoid getting stuck in an off-road terrain.

Since it’s an off-road SUV, it’s designed with a two-speed gearbox to improve the torque and control when climbing steep obstacles. Of course, it also comes with a protective floor pan so the battery, which will be integrated into a traditional truck ladder frame, doesn’t take a hit. If Mercedes-Benz delivers as promised, the all-electric G Wagon will be a top contender for the best electric off-road vehicle alongside the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck.

It could have a range of up to 300 miles

Mercedes-Benz hasn’t officially revealed the technical specifications. However, when the EQG prototype was showcased in 2021, it included a 108-kWh battery similar to the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV model. This means that we expect the all-electric G Wagon to have a range of around 300 miles. It’s also likely that Mercedes-Benz could fit a bigger battery pack to improve the range.

If the electric G-Class is fitted with the same dual motors used on the EQS 580 SUV, it could produce up to 536 horsepower, which is enough to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Then again, we won’t know the exact specifications of the all-electric G Wagon until Mercedes-Benz tells us more about it later this year. What we can confirm is that it will go into production in late 2024 and hit the dealership in early 2025. It will also be one of the best luxury off-road electric SUVs on the market.

How much will the EQG cost?

While Mercedes-Benz has not released any official pricing for the 2025 EQG as of this update, we can make a reasonable guesstimate that given the gas-powered G-Wagon has a starting MSRP of $144,150, the EQG should more than likely begin just north of the $150k mark.

Currently, the G-Wagon has eight available trims, with the G550 G Professional checking in at about $167,000. MB’s other EV SUV, the EQS, starts at $105,550 and tops out at $136,200. With the high-profile celebrity love that the G-Wagon already gets, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Mercedes-Benz try and (easily) cash in on an AMG-Wagon somewhere north of the $200,000 mark.

2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet: Drop-top dream car reaches U.S. shores
New Mercedes aspirational four passenger convertibles arrive soon

Hot on the heels of Mercedes-Benz EQS update announcement, we now know the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring with new safety technology, optimized aerodynamics, and the next-generation MBUX infotainment system. Powered by mild hybrid engines, the CLE 300 4MATIC Cabriolet and CLE 450 4MATIC Cabriolet are also larger than the previous models.
Why the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet matters

Not many large automakers could get away with introducing a new-generation vehicle today that's not a pickup truck, SUV, battery-electric vehicle, or plug-in hybrid. However, it is arguable that Mercedes sets the standard for four-seat medium-luxury European convertibles. BMW convertible four-seaters are a bit sportier, and Audis are less costly, but the Mercedes CLE Cabriolet fits the drop-top dream car profile nicely.

The first electric Ferrari: Everything we know so far
Ferrari EV due in 2025

While EVs were once a purely environmental option, performance vehicle manufacturers like Porsche, Lamborghini, and even Ferrari are also firmly on board with the concept. The hype surrounding Ferrari's electric effort has been ongoing for a while now, with fans wondering how it will compare to the likes of a Rimac Nivera or the Ferrari EV's spiritual cousin, the Pininfarina Battista.
When will the electric Ferrari arrive?

The prancing horse will have to hurry up a bit if it wants to meet its ambitious goals. In 2023, Ferrari claimed it would be carbon neutral by 2030, and 60% of its offerings would either come with all-electric or hybrid powertrains by 2026. Based on this and Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna’s insistence that the first electric Ferrari will launch in the last quarter of 2025, we may not have much longer to wait. Given that the launch date is roughly a year and a half away at the time of writing, there’s every chance that announcements, leaks, and revelations will begin to pile up over the coming months.

The new G-Class will G-Roar at you
Mercedes-Benz G 580

The new all-electric Mercedes G class features four individually controlled electric motors, superior underbody protection, and a U.S.-exclusive trim. The luxury automaker has announced that the EDITION ONE special edition, which expands on the SUV's standard equipment and adds unique design elements, is only available in the States.

The vehicle’s four-motor setup provides a total of 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque -- along with more control over where that power goes. The ability to manage the output of each wheel is particularly useful on difficult terrain, off-road, and in situations that require precise maneuvering. The power for the motors comes from a116-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery, which is integrated into the vehicle’s ladder frame and drops its center of gravity as a result.
