His Story Opens in New York

Pop up shops are now common place, brands caravanning around the country are pretty standard these days too. Even though both still keep customers on their toes, many are looking for the next big trend in gaining our attention and doing something fresh. Enter Story.

Located in Manhattan’s Meat Packing District, the retail store describes itself as ‘A magazine that comes to life! (and changes every 4-8 weeks)’. We have made a point to swing by every time the theme changes and it is refreshing and exciting to see a whole new concept each time. They also tend to carry young, independent brands along with more well known ones.

Developed by a long time friend of The Manual’s, Rachel Shechtman, a retail consultant and founder of Cube Ventures, she was looking for a valuable, engaging and relevant retail experience to cross the boarders of fashion and design. There has been a LOVE Story, Home for the Holiday’s Story and a Making Things Story, to name a few. This week they opened up one fit just for us, HIS Story.

Rachel teamed up with the design firm Tietz + Baccon to transform the space into one serious man cave stocked with 2,000 square feet of guy necessities.

Some of our favorites include:

Birch Box Man-A section of the store is basically a Birch box come to life. As a collaboration with Details, Birch Box is selling their limited edition box with a variety of grooming and gear. Also, if you buy a subscription to Birch Box you leave with a box as well.

Frank’s Chop Shop– The coolest barber in town is offering complimentary hot towel shaves and product previews.

McIntosh Labs– This heritage sound system company is showcasing some of their latest wireless equipment.

Shinola BikesWe love this Detroit based company and they are showcasing their latest bikes.

Lean Times: A section curated by our boy Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean stocked with his favorite finds from J. Crew, Mark McNairy and others.

There are also loads of events such as the Whiskey + Chocolate tasting with Michael Richart of Richart Chocolates.

His Story is open daily through July 7th.

10th Avenue and 19th Street, New York

Now, New Balance has reengineered the sneaker to embrace a brand new group, the skateboarding community. Around thirty years after its initial launch, the 770 returns with the same retro look of the ‘90s but with a brand new set of features that make it ideal for skaters and non-skaters alike.

Grand Seiko has unveiled the SLGC006, the fourth reference in its Evolution 9 Tentagraph series and the first to incorporate precious metal accents, continuing the Mt. Iwate theme with a sunrise-inspired copper-pink dial.

The 43.2mm chronograph features a textured dial that represents the scored landscape of Mt. Iwate as viewed from above, with deeper three-dimensional relief than previous Tentagraph models. The copper-salmon hue emulates dawn's first rays illuminating the mountainside, while 18k rose gold plating adorns the applied hour markers, hands, and date window frame.
