Italian sportswear label Stone Island recently opened its first United States store in Los Angeles. The brand, which was founded in 1982 in Ravarino, in Modena, is defined by a “a culture of research, experimentation, function and use.” The label uses innovative dyes and fabrics for clothes that are both functional and stylish, just as idea for the modern-day outdoorsman as it is for the urban city dweller.

According to the website, “The story behind it started almost by accident, with a study of special two tone materials, so rigid and dense that they were washed extensively with pumice stones to tame their structure. The result is surprising, a garment that seems worn-in and completely fascinating. Seven down jackets in this unique fabric were created, and named Tela Stella. Thus it was born, the first collection with a strong marine identity that needed an important name. This was chosen by analyzing the most recurring words in the novels of Joseph Conrad: Stone and Island. At which point, personalization that was just as strong became necessary, like the badge, a label held on by two buttons showing the Wind Rose and acting as the insignia of a military captain.”

The new outpost, located at 145 South La Brea measures over 3,000 square feet. It will offer special selections from the Stone Island collection, beginning with spring/summer 2016, and will also include specially curated presentations and experiences.

The first,  Reflective Research ‘992 – ‘015, explores Stone Island’s research, “looking at the evolution and interpretations of the concept on different textile bases and at the many experimental processes applied to finished garments, including pieces that never made it into production.”

So next time you’re in Los Angeles and you’re in the market for a polo shirt, a jacket, trousers, or anything else that is simple, cool, sophisticated and stylish all at once, pay a visit to the newest Stone Island location.

Stone Island Los Angeles is located at 145 S. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles.
