Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup flake nutritional yeast
  • 3/8 cup tamari (low-sodium)
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 cloves garlic, mashed

Method

  1. Add everything to the food processor except the oil. When the motor is running, add oil in a thin stream. Blend until creamy.
  2. Use flake yeast, not powdered, such as Red Star flake nutrition yeast. You can often find it in the bulk section at your local organic markets.
  3. Store the sauce in the fridge for up to two days. You can make the sauce ahead of time, so it’s prepared for your burgers, or make it fresh while cooking your burgers.

You can find the Umami sauce on the “Grass-Fed Burger” available at True Food Kitchen’s restaurants. Made with a Verde Farms 100% organic grass-fed burger, mushroom, caramelized onions, organic arugula, parmesan, and umami sauce. True Food Kitchen describes the Umami sauce as having a “super savory” flavor that “Creates depth in dishes and adds a rich, satisfying, and almost meaty taste that enhances overall flavor. This sauce is excellent for burgers, sandwiches, and dipping, plus it’s easy to make at home with simple, high-quality ingredients.”

While you can use the special umami sauce on any burger recipe, using a grass-fed burger can elevate the taste of your recipe. The sauce’s bold and balanced flavor enhances the rich, juicy taste of 100% grass-fed beef without overpowering it. This perfect burger sauce can easily be adapted to your flavor preferences. For example, the sauce can be spicier by adding a touch of pepper or hot sauce. Some people may also prefer to use the sauce as a marinade, allowing the beef to soak up the umami flavor before cooking. True Food Kitchen also recommends blending more olive oil into the sauce to create a thinner dressing for salads and vegetables.
