The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar for Season 11 has just been finalized following the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council’s October meeting. The 2024/25 schedule will see 11 teams of two drivers each compete in 16 races in ten cities, starting December 7 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and ending in London, England, on July 27. Season 11 is also the new Gen3 Evo car, the fastest accelerating FIA single-seat race car ever and 30% faster than current Formula 1 cars.

Why Formula E is such a big deal

Formula E World Championship races from Season 10.
Formula E is the only FIA motorsports championship that has created zero emissions with its race cars starting with its first season. All-electric race cars are the signature environmentally conscious elements of Formula E racing, but the Championship also focuses on carbon neutral or better in all of its operations, including transporting fans to and from stadiums.

The Gen3 Evo car

Formula E Gen3 Evo race car.
The Gen2 Evo race car that debuts with Season 11 includes several technical advances to Formula E. I’ll cover the car and its changes from the Gen3 car in another post, but here are the Gene Evo car’s highlights:

    • Acceleration: It will be the fastest accelerating single-set FIA car, able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.82 seconds, which is 30% faster than an F1 car.
    • Overall performance gain: Formula E estimates the performance upgrades will result in a 2% gain, which is approximately 2 seconds faster on the Monaco street circuit.
    • Aggressive body design: The new body is “leaner and meaner” for physically closer racing
    • All-wheel drive (AWD): Formula E cars can use AWD for the first time during qualifying runs, race starts, and attack mode.
    • New tires: The Formula E tire supplier Hankook is providing ION all-weather tires with 10% more grip than last season and a greater percentage of recycled and sustainable materials (increase from 9% to 35%).

Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar unveiling

Genesis is entering the world of endurance racing. Ahead of the New York International Auto Show, the Korean luxury automaker announced a new V8-powered hypercar, and some big targets for its “Genesis Magma Racing” team.

The hefty V8 at the center of it all wasn’t present at the show itself, but the vehicle it will power, the GMR-001, was on display at Genesis House. It’s easy enough to spot, with its bright orange “Magma” livery. Drivers André Lotterer and Luis “Pipo” Derani, who share multiple victories at the likes of Le Mans and Sebring between them, wearing the team’s firesuits. In addition to the colors matching the vehicle well, the new suits are also a nod to the company’s proud Korean heritage.

Porsche 911 GTS

Porsche 911 owners are sitting pretty when it comes to making a smart investment in their cars, according to a new study from iSeeCars, a used-car search engine. They found that the iconic German sports car has the lowest five-year depreciation rate of any vehicle around. The study looked at over 800,000 five-year-old used cars sold from March 2024 to February 2025 to gather its data.

The 911 not only topped a list of 25 cars with the slowest depreciation but also showed an average dip in value of just 19.5 percent over five years, which is an average MSRP difference of $24,428. Plus, Porsche's 718 Cayman came in at a close second, losing 21.8 percent in value during the same period. Rounding out the top five are the Toyota Tacoma (26 percent), Chevrolet Corvette (27.2 percent), and Honda Civic (28 percent), all of which hold their value better than many others.

24h Le Mans Pascal Wehrlein in the 963.

Reigning Formula E World Champion Pascal Wehrlein will join two veteran Porsche factory drivers racing a Porsche Penske Motorsport hybrid prototype in June in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The three-driver team will pilot one of three Porsche 963s at Le Mans. Porsche has a long history at Le Mans.
Why choose an EV race car driver for a hybrid in an endurance race?

This will be Wehrlein's first battle at the famed endurance competition in Le Mans, but it will not be his first endurance race. Wehtlein's performance in the 24 Hours of Daytona in January and test sessions in the Porsche 963 earned his seat in the Le Mans race.
