For Acqua di Parma, invoking Italian scents is an everyday act, but their newest fragrance collection takes this to another level. Playing off three familiar fragrances, the brand has enriched the scents to unveil its new Blu Mediterranea La Riserva collection. Released in a decadent dark blue shade, this collection stands out from the brand’s traditional lineup with a subtle tone switch. The perfect unisex fragrances for the season, Acqua di Parma transports everyone to the Italian coast with plenty of style.

Exploring Italy with Acqua di Parma’s Blu Mediterranea La Riserva

Going through an extensive softening process, the new Blu Mediterranea La Riserva collection is a refined version of three of Acqua di Parma’s most iconic fragrances. Each fragrance takes on a new personality that takes users on a trip to Italy that’s smooth and rich. The first in the collection, Mirto di Panarea La Riserva, takes on the personality of the region’s volcanic terrain and decadent myrtle fruit. Top notes of cedrat essence, sage, and juniper berries meet notes of myrtle and lavender for a warm feel. Base notes of patchouli fraction, labdanum absolute, and lentiscus absolute exude the earthy feel of the Panarea.

Arancia di Capri La Riserva exudes a more zesty personality with the help of Italian citrus like blood orange, mandarin, and petitgrain bigarade essence. To soften this scent, a heart of rosemary and Italian basil acts as a counter. A base of cedarwood, ambrettolide, and suede accord gives the fragrance a warmer and woodier touch. Lastly, the Fico di Amalfi La Riserva fragrance gets inspired by the Mediterranean fig with combinations of citrus notes, heart of orris concentré, fig, and lemon infusions. Tonka beans absolute, ambrettolide, and orcanox are a base for a soft and decadent scent. All three fragrances are available in 50ml, 100ml, and 180ml bottles via Acqua di Parma’s webstore, and are delivered in a premium blue hatbox.

Man spraying on cologne

A few years back, you probably gravitated toward fragrances that appealed to you in the moment and were easiest for you to get your hands on, whether that was a fresh-smelling department store fav or a woody body spray. For laid-back hippies or tree-hugging outdoor types, patchouli oil would have been the old standby. And for those borrowing from Dad’s medicine cabinet right before a hot date, you might have gone with anything from Old Spice body spray to Acqua di Gio.
The old way of choosing a personal fragrance
Adulthood usually brings refinement and adjustments to our style choices, but when it comes to fragrance, we can get stuck in the same patterns of adolescence. White-collar types reach for the latest Chanel, Gucci, or Yves Saint Laurent, while indie types with vinyl collections focus on cedar-whiskey beard balm and hiking enthusiasts stick to a pepperminty handmade soap for a fragrant boost.

Unfortunately, a carelessly chosen fragrance is the quickest way to make your unique personal style appear as a flat and predictable cartoon. But, when chosen with intention — not according to type, but based on your authentic taste— fragrance can astonish, subvert assumptions, and deeply influence the way people perceive you.
“As with all things with style, fragrance communicates who you are as a person, a sense of humility and authenticity. Akin to how you carry yourself, it has so much to do with the impression a person makes, maybe even more so than their clothing.” — Alison Carroll, co-founder of Wonder Valley
However, these benefits, considerable though they may be, all take a backseat to how you feel about wearing your scent. The real benefit of a personal fragrance is what it does for you, and make no mistake, it can do a lot. Given the powerful role that olfaction plays within our brain centers, masterfully activating mood, memory, and even libido, a mindfully chosen fragrance can transform a regular day into one of intrigue, adventure, and endless possibility.

5 Men’s Fragrances that Shine All Winter Long
From spicy to smoky to gourmand, there's a scent here to brighten up those dreary winter days and nights

Winter is perhaps the most abstract season of them all, and with that abstraction comes the ability to celebrate and interpret it however we choose. The season shrouds us in darkness and sometimes bundles us up in crisp snow, creating the perfect canvases onto which to project our dreams and desires. In the world of fragrance, winter is hailed as the most glorious season to enjoy scent; the crisp air is thought to bring out the wonderful subtleties found in these olfactory artworks. Some heavier and spicier scents are most appropriate in winter, where frosty air and layers of warm clothing and accessories bring out the best in them. Some fragrances also just seem to call out to be worn in lower temperatures and in wilder weather, hoping for a chance to shine in the darkness.
