LUMA Hotel is New York City’s Brightest Getaway off Broadway

Times Square isn’t usually the neighborhood that comes to mind when you think of the true New York City experience. Most visitors would rather stay downtown or in Brooklyn if they’re looking to live like locals rather than tourists. But that’s not to say that Midtown Manhattan isn’t convenient, especially if you’re seeing a Broadway show, plan on exploring Central Park, or want to be steps away from a multitude of subway lines. If you’re looking for that downtown boutique feel in a convenient, central location, LUMA Hotel Times Square is your best bet.

First off, you’ll be happy to know that this LUMA property is a few steps closer to Bryant Park than it is to Times Square — excellent news if you love the hustle and bustle of NYC but aren’t looking to bump into tourists at every step. The lobby is small but comfy and features a plush sitting area, as well as a bar where you can enjoy a libation or continental breakfast. Every afternoon the hotel hosts a complimentary sangria happy hour for guests.

The contemporary, light-filled rooms offer excellent views of Times Square’s twinkling lights and the surrounding neighborhood. They’re designed to utilize the available space and feature details like custom armoires with built-in safes and lights that switch on when you open the door. Everywhere you turn, there’s a USB port to keep you charged. A large under-the-bed drawer stashes necessities like the hairdryer and iron, keeping them conveniently in reach but also out of sight. Electronic blackout shades make for a good night’s sleep, while in-room Nespresso machines ensure a productive morning. The bathrooms are sleek, spacious and stocked with Etro Italian bath products.

While there’s no on-site gym, LUMA offers complimentary passes to nearby Blink Fitness if you’re in the mood to exercise. For a quick, in-room workout, the hotel will send up their “Gym-in-a-Bag,” which includes a Bionic Bar, push-up bar, resistance bands, ab wheel and muscle relaxation balls. If you’re in need of a blowout or makeup application, LUMA’s concierge will arrange an appointment with their Glam Squad, which brings the treatments straight to your room.

One of the best meals in Midtown can be found in LUMA’s lobby at Ortzi, a restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef Jose Garces. The menu is inspired by the cuisine of Basque country in northeastern Spain and southwestern France. Think delicious charcuterie like jamon Iberico and chorizo Pamplona, along with snacks like hamachi crudo with piquillo pepper and saffron, and a fava bean salad with feta, Meyer lemon, gordal olives and smoked egg yolk. The succulent main courses leave little room for dessert — we indulged in rich, traditional dishes like braised oxtail with chickpeas, tomato and fennel sofrito, and wagyu sirloin steak with royal trumpet mushrooms and veal jus. An extensive wine list and expertly-crafted signature cocktails will whet your appetite for the feast to come.

Whether you’re visiting NYC or just need a great place to quench your thirst for a staycation, consider LUMA Hotel. Between the incredible food, excellent service and super convenient location, the boutique-style vibe will make you feel special at every turn.
