Mercedes-Benz shoves more power into the GLC Coupe and dubs a new AMG

Mercedes-AMG’s latest “43” nameplates have replaced the AMG-Sport nomenclature and now the German automaker has revealed its latest offering: the GLC43 Coupe.

The compact Mercedes crossover coupe goes toe to toe with BMW’s new X4 M40i and brings with its stylish design a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 making 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission apply power to the pavement. Keeping the GLC43 flat in corners is an air body control active damping system. Mercedes-Benz says the crossover can handle itself off-road as well, but I’d suggest a more rugged ride for those kind of thrills.

“The new GLC43 Coupe is characterized by a high level of agility and sporty driving dynamics. With its expressive design and high everyday practicality, the Coupe is able to appeal to new target audiences,” according to Tobias Moers, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Frankly, the luxury vehicle market is flooding with excellent crossovers, but the 43 AMG models offer a nice blend of performance and luxury at a price point thousands less than full-bodied 63 AMG models. Speaking of performance, the GLC43 AMG Coupe hits 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and is limited to a 130 mph top speed. For reference, the BMW X4 M40i accelerates to 60 mph one-tenth of a second quicker and tops out at 150 mph.

As styling goes, the Porsche Macan may still have the edge over both the Merc and BMW, but the GLC is still a rather handsome shape. While the BMW X6 looks proportionally better than the X4, the GLC may wear the coupe design better than its larger GLE Coupe sibling.

Mercedes-AMG has yet to announce pricing for the GLC43 AMG Coupe, but expect it to be priced near the Porsche Macan S and BMW X4 M40i starting figure of mid-$50,000. The new AMG will begin arriving in U.S. showrooms starting in the first quarter of 2017.

Two years ago, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the SL Roadster, also known as the R232. Mercedes-AMG reimagined it by adding a new fabric roof, modern tech modification, and a standard two-plus-two seating layout. Sneak a peek at the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS and you might notice that the large SUV looks slightly different. Mercedes’ largest SUV is getting a mid-cycle refresh for 2024, bringing an updated look, more powerful engines, new tech, and more features for the SUV. The changes may be slight, but they’re there and they're coming after similar changes to the GLC and CLA.
Fans of the old GLS shouldn’t worry about the 2024’s updated exterior design, as the minor changes mostly affect the front end. The large SUV’s front grille has been updated with new horizontal slats, and there’s new black trim that surrounds the grille to showcase its size. The four louvers in the grille are finished in “Silver Shadow,” which is a fancy way of saying dark chrome in Mercedes. Some slight changes have been made to the front bumper, and new taillights are the only changes that Mercedes has made at the back.

Maserati has unveiled the final piece of its 2024 electrification puzzle in the form of the GranCabrio Folgore -- an all-electric version of its new convertible. The battery-powered roadster was unveiled as part of “Folgore Days,” a celebration of Maserati’s new electric lineup held in Italy’s motor valley. The Trident has gone all out with its latest offering, producing what it claims is the fastest electric convertible on the market. It can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and is capable of hitting speeds of just over 180 miles per hour. As with many of Maserati’s sportier offerings, “Corsa Mode” is available and is the easiest way to get the most out of your electric Maserati. The vehicle produces just over 750 horsepower, though with boost, this can briefly reach around 820 horsepower. So the GranCabrio sits alongside its hard-top sibling as the most powerful vehicle Maserati currently offers.
