Ask Your Barber for One of These 5 Popular Summer Hairstyles

summer hairstyles for men

Just as fashion evolves so do hairstyles, and we’re here to help you pick a bold, new hairstyle to compliment your summer look. We spoke with Rob McMillen, head barber at Blind Barber, to build this list and get a little more insight into what’s trending for this year’s summer hairstyles. Rob also gave us some tips on how to maintain each cut and what hair-care products to use for each style. The next time you visit your barber, take a page out of Rob’s book and ask for one of these five summer hairstyles.

The Caesar is a traditional take on the classic barbershop cut with a high fringe and weighted top over-directed forward with skin to 1/8 of an inch fading on the sides and back.

Maintenance: Cut every 2 to 4 weeks

Best Product: Aveda Men’s Grooming Clay – This lightweight clay adds pliable hold without the shine. It’s also a great tool for adding a thicker appearance to your hair.

Buzz Cut

Trim to a length between 1/8 and 3/8 on the top with tapered sides and clean lines.

Maintenance: Cut every 1 to 3 weeks.

Best Product: None! The buzz cut makes it possible to roll out of bed and not spend a minute in front of the mirror.

Volume Textured High Fade

Ask for tons of volume and length on the top with very short fading up to the temple area.

Maintenance: Cut every 3 to 5 weeks

Best Product: Sachajuan Volume Powder – These powders make it easier to style your hair without the stickiness of pomades.

Soft Part Low Taper

This is a deconstructed traditional side part with manicured edges and clean lines.

Maintenance: Cut every 3 to 5 weeks

Best Product: Malin and Goetz Styling Cream – This styling works like a gel but without the stiffness.

Short and Textured

Short and choppy with little distinction between the top and sides. It’s basically a loose take on the bed head.

Maintenance: Cut every 4 to 6 weeks

Best Product: Blind Barber Medium Hold Wax – This nutrient-rich wax holds hair without weighing it down.

You can book an appointment at any one of Blind Barber’s locations in the East Village of NYC, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, or Barney’s on 7th Ave. in NYC.
