Delta Air Lines has announced revamped naming for its seating products in an effort to provide travelers with more choice and control during their trips. The new naming conventions took effect yesterday for flights on or after October 1.

Here are Delta’s new seating product designations

Delta’s seating products will now be known as: Delta Main (previously Main Cabin), Delta Comfort (previously Delta Comfort+), Delta First (previously First Class), Delta Premium Select, and Delta One. “Basic Economy” is no longer part of the lineup, having been combined with Delta Main, which offers three options: Basic, Classic, and Extra. Beyond Delta Main, all other seating classes will offer “Classic” and “Extra” tiered experiences. According to aviation experts, the changes could be more than surface-level and be a way to upsell customers who want upgrades.

Travelers can shop for and select the new experiences via the Fly Delta app and on Delta.com. This allows a quick yet in-depth look at what each fare provides and the ability to compare across classes.

Eric Phillips, S.V.P. and Chief Digital Officer, said: “As we listen and learn about what our customers want when it comes to their travel, we know that clarity and choice are paramount. Our reimagined shopping experience gives customers more options and flexibility to pick the travel experience that works best for them, and a full picture of all the benefits of flying with Delta.”

As mentioned, the new seating brands go into effect on October 1 for flights embarking from the U.S. and Canada. Those currently reserving flights that take off before then (up to Sept. 30) will experience the same booking and travel options.
