Pininfarina and F1 Racer Fittipaldi Will Debut an Ultra-Light Supercar in Geneva

Every international auto show is a chance for manufacturers to preview their latest production vehicles and concepts, but only one show is tailored to supercars.

The Geneva Motor Show in March rolls out the red carpet for the most exclusive brands to show off their dream works.

Pininfariana, an iconic Italian design firm, wouldn’t choose any other stage to show off its new concept vehicle, the Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo. The name is in large part owed to the car’s developer, Formula 1 champion and Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi. Working with Pininfarina, Fittipaldi created a limited-edition track car that will use a naturally aspirated V8 good for more than 592 horsepower.

Details about the car are limited, but we do know it will weigh around 2,200 pounds and will use a carbon fiber monocoque chassis.

“Owner-drivers can expect reliability, lower maintenance cost, and minimal mechanic and tech teams — which means more time and elation on the track,” said Fittipaldi. Autocar brings us these two teaser images, which shows the chassis and rear of the car.

Like other Gran Turismo-named vehicles, this one will be added to PlayStation’s Gran Turismo game. Unlike some GT concepts, however, Pininfarina’s car will be produced, albeit in very small quantities (we aren’t sure how small yet).

“[Fittipaldi’s] sole mission was to apply all his track knowledge on creating a new experience that will elevate the driving ability of all supercar enthusiasts from around the world,” said a Pininfarina spokesman.

Doesn’t that sound nice? I’m going to imagine that Pininfarina means every supercar enthusiast will get a chance to drive the EF7 Vision GT and have their driving abilities “elevated.”

We’ll learn more about the car closer to its debut on March 7. Pininfarina is also planning to show a sedan concept during the Geneva show dates.

These are all the premium packages for the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix
You want to take a trip to Las Vegas for the Grand Prix? Here are the tickets prices
A view of the Vegas strip at night.

The last time the Formula 1 Grand Prix happened in Las Vegas was in 1982, when "Eye of the Tiger" was popular on the radio and Rocky 3 was showing on the big screen. Ford was also dominating Formula 1, and it was a Ford Cosworth DFV engine that emerged on top at the 1982 Las Vegas Grand Prix. It has been 41 years since the Formula 1 Grand Prix last took place in Las Vegas — but it's coming back in November for a thrill of a race!

Coincidentally, Ford also announced it's returning to Formula 1 by partnering with Red Bull, but we won't see the results until 2026. All things aside, the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix will close the curtain in North America before the season finale in Abu Dhabi. This means we will probably know who will be crowned the world champion in the Las Vegas Grand Prix — unless it would be too close to call until the Abu Dhabi season finale.

Mercedes Benz’s new AMG SL 43 is a gorgeous RWD, F1-inspired beast
If you need to go fast and look good doing it, we've got the car for you
Front view of AMG SL 43

Two years ago, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the SL Roadster, also known as the R232. Mercedes-AMG reimagined it by adding a new fabric roof, modern tech modification, and a standard two-plus-two seating layout. Two variants of the R232 were immediately available for sale in the U.S. — the AMG SL 63 and AMG SL 55.

There was just one thing missing — the entry-level SL Roadster dubbed the AMG SL 43, was not made available in the U.S. despite it being sold in Europe. Luckily, Mercedes-AMG just announced that the AMG SL 43 will be available to order in the U.S. starting this summer.

You can buy Alfa Romeo’s 2023 F1 show car (but you can’t drive it)
The lucky winner won’t be able to drive the Alfa Romeo race car, but it will make for a striking centerpiece

Like most race cars, F1 cars are built with lap times in mind. Engineers and designers spend a painstaking amount of attention on every detail in the hopes of cutting 0.01 seconds off of a lap time. While the end result is a race car that puts function over form, there’s no denying that F1 cars are beautiful. Despite the bulky, but entirely necessary halo and the wheel covers that look like fancy mudflaps, modern F1 cars are striking.
If you caught the reveal of the 2023 C43, which is Alfa Romeo’s entry for the 2023 season of Formula 1, and liked the design, we have some good news. The actual car that was used for the reveal is up for auction on F1 Authentics and includes some extra goodies.
