The Coolest Hotel Room in Denmark is a Converted Crane

Architectural firm Arcgency has created what is, hands-down, the most unique hotel room in Denmark. From the outside, THEKRANE looks like just another unused crane sitting on the edge of the Coppenhagen harbor. Closer inspection reveals a shipping container reception area, a glass-surrounded meeting room, a control cabin turned spa, and a small cabin-like structure attached to the crane’s jib.

Stepping inside of THEKRANE’s guest room feels like you’ve walked into a black and white photo. The room’s all-black interior pays homage to the crane’s coal-scooping past. Every surface, from the floor to the walls to the furniture, is a matte black the color of coal. Far from claustrophobic, the space is flooded with natural light thanks to plenty of windows. Color comes from the exterior views of the harbor and Copenhagen.the krane hotel

The decor may be solid black, but the style is the classic, welcoming Scandinavian minimalism that Denmark is famous for. Thoughtfully designed, handcrafted furniture can all be tucked away into the walls when not in use, making the small space feel much larger than it is. The room includes a Murphy bed, coffee station, and shower with a glass ceiling. Accessed by a catwalk attached to the control cab, the two-person suite provides an unparalleled vista of the water and city beyond.

The crane’s former control cabin has been transformed into THEAMAZINGKRANE Spa and is available to rent as well. The space includes a shower and a sauna, but the main attraction is the two large soaking tubs set in front of a large window, perfect for unwinding after a long day of biking around the city.

THEKRANE is outfitted with all of the amenities you would expect in a high-end hotel, such as a private concierge who will chauffeur you to and from the airport, daily breakfast, wine, and bikes for getting around town. Peddling not your thing? No worries. The room also comes with access to a BMW customized specifically for the hotel.

At a cool $2,900 per night, this one-of-a-kind hotel room doesn’t come cheap, but it is definitely worth every penny.
