This week, American Airlines announced a new way for travelers to reach the Bahamas: a non-stop trip from Miami (MIA) to Bimini (BIM). The first flight embarks on February 14, with the airline offering round-trip service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
American will be the only carrier flying direct to Bimini

When the route launches, American Airlines will be the only airline flying nonstop to Bimini. The route will be the carrier’s seventh destination in the Bahamas, and during the winter, it will be part of over 30 daily peak flights to the island, more than any other carrier. The Bimini flight will be aboard an Embraer 175 with premium cabin offerings. Passengers will be able to fly through Miami on the way to Bimini from over 80 U.S. and Canadian locations.
“American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning. “We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas.”
Besides Bimini, American is the only airline flying to Freeport (FPO) and Governor’s Harbour (GHB). To meet growing demand to visit the Bahamas, the carrier has added additional flights over the December holiday period to Marsh Harbour (MHH) and North Eleuthera (ELH).
The route to Bimini builds on American’s investment in MIA as a major hub, continuing the airline’s 35-year history in the South Florida city. American is the largest airline flying from MIA, providing direct flights to over 160 destinations in more than 45 countries and territories.
