4 Ridiculously Over-the-Top Villas You Can Rent on Airbnb

It seems just a few short years ago that Airbnb was a scrappy little startup for budget travelers. While plenty of couch-surfing deals can still be had, the site is also home to some of the swankiest crashpads. Here are four of the most ridiculously over-the-top villas you can rent on Airbnb.

Villa on the Rocks

The South of France

You’d be hard-pressed to find a bad spot to bed down in the South of France. Villa on the Rocks is no exception. The four-bed, 10-guest luxury villa is a beautiful architectural masterwork of modern and natural design. The centerpiece is a 91-foot outdoor lap pool that runs the entire length of the four-story house. Aquarium-style sides ensure indoor guests can easily keep an eye on swimmers. Immediately adjacent is a wide rooftop deck overlooking some of the most beautiful vineyards in the world.

Hualalai’s Top Villa

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

In Hawaii, every oceanfront villa seems grander and more luxurious than the last. Hualalai’s Top Villa rises above most — literally. The 6,300-square-foot, five-bedroom, 5.5-bath rental features a custom design that stays out of its own way to ensure the natural Hawaiian landscape is the real centerpiece. Outdoor rain showers, cornerless walls, and an ocean-view hot tub all ensure most guests will never need to leave. Inside is a stunning chef’s kitchen, four master suites, a state-of-the-art media room, and a curated fine art collection. What’s more, guests have access to a personal concierge to customize their vacation itinerary, plus access to all the amenities at the adjacent Four Seasons Resort. Sure, the all-in price is more than five grand per night, but who cares? Two words: Hawaiian sunset.

Reunion Zero

Orlando, Florida

It’s fitting that Orlando — home of the classic, over-the-top, family-friendly, all-American vacation — would be home to one of the largest vacation rentals in Florida. Reunion Zero is a 25,000-square-foot behemoth of a villa. In fact, with room for up to 34 guests spread throughout 14 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, it feels more like a boutique hotel. Add to that amusement-park-worthy amenities, and it’s a wonder guests would ever want to leave. Outside is a large, lazy-river-style swimming pool with two bridges, illuminated fountains, and a sunken pool bar, plus a large spa and a second, rooftop pool. Inside lies a gourmet chef’s kitchen, a home theater, a bowling alley, a multi-sports court, and several game rooms. That the garish contemporary decor borders on “Modern Willy Wonka” only adds to the charm.

SXSW Exclusive Villa

Austin, Texas

It’s hard to stand out at South by Southwest. The iconic Austin event brings together some of the brightest, most creative, most interesting people in the world. You might just be able to buy your way into the event’s elite social circle, provided you’re cool with splashing out on a nearly $10,000-per-night villa. The SXSW Exclusive Villa is exactly what it sounds like: a sprawling, three-property estate with every imaginable amenity all within walking distance of the festival. The pictures tell the whole story. Suffice to say, you won’t be wanting for much while you and your 15 closest friends are crashing here. Think multiple gourmet kitchens, media rooms, fur-lined chairs, Roman pillars, and a stunning outdoor party pool.

Try 5 of Austin’s most beloved restaurants without even leaving the airport
These restaurants will make your time spent at the airport a little better
A busy day in the austin airport

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the best of both worlds - it's small enough that you can make it to your gate at a leisurely pace yet big enough to offer a slew of iconic Austin staples for any passersby to enjoy. You can buy a record at Waterloo's or grab something to read at BookPeople, which are two local favorites. But it's the Austin airport restaurants that make me show up a solid hour earlier to have enough time for a delish meal.
These five eateries are absolutely worth visiting during your time in the actual city of Austin, but it's nice to know you have a convenient alternative if you're just passing through the fine-food-laden Texas town.

Going to Yosemite National Park just got a whole lot easier
Now's your chance to bypass Yosemite's reservation system
Yosemite National Park water and mountains

Going to Yosemite National Park just got a whole lot easier with the elimination of their reservation system for the rest of 2024. The National Park Service originally intended to extend the reservations until October 27, but due to lower-than-expected crowds, they've already pulled the plug. Park officials highlight that the entrance fee of $35 entrance will still be required, but not to worry. Refunds will be automatically issued to those who purchased one of these reservations.
Yosemite National Park removes reservation system

The first version of Yosemite's reservation was first introduced in 2020 to promote social distancing from COVID-19. Initially, it was meant as a temporary measure, but since Yosemite sees around 3.8 million visitors per year, they decided to keep it in place. Many national parks have seen a huge increase in visitors, which in turn crowds the roads and facilities, and makes it difficult for them to protect the environment and infrastructure. These newest versions of the system was designed to try and mitigate the negative effects.

Do you need compression socks for air travel?
Should compression socks be on your travel gear list?

If you've ever flown on a long-haul flight, you’ve probably noticed people pulling on long, tight socks. These are likely compression socks, and they’re not just a fashion statement – they serve a purpose. The question is: do you need compression socks for air travel?
Why use compression socks for air travel?

In an airplane cabin, you’re often immobile for hours, sitting in a confined space. That’s when blood can pool in your lower extremities due to the cabin's lack of movement, gravity, and lower air pressure. The socks work by creating pressure on your legs, which pushes the blood back to your heart, helping to prevent circulation issues. This helps prevent the pooling of blood in the legs, which can reduce the risk of conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT), leg swelling (edema), and general discomfort from sitting for long periods.
