Sweetwater Spice Makes Brining a Breeze

Brining can sound like a major project that we try to keep to a once a year, Thanksgiving, comedy of errors. Last time we brined a turkey the brine bag leaked all over the fridge and warped the hardwood floors. Nice.

So when we got hold of some Sweetwater Spice ready-to-use brine concentrates we were skeptical but gave it a shot. Ding, ding, ding – we have a winner!

Based in Austin, Texas, Sweetwater has BBQ Bath, Fajita Bath, Regional Q Baths and Turkey Bath that gives your goods some serious flavor, tenderness and juice.

We used the brine several times and were impressed with how little we need and with how little time we had to leave it to marinate. It wasn’t a 12 hour process, instead most meats need only an hour, seafood only 5-20 minutes. We loved that after you brine it they suggest using the left overs as a rub.

Each bath comes with super simple instructions and brining times for every sort of meat. When my friend Claire and I used them on the grill for a Memorial Day feast, the bath kept our chicken moist. Definite crowd pleaser.

We also appreciate that the ingredients list is quite short. No preservatives, MSG, gluten, colors or flavors. That means we can get down and dirty with some serious rib action and almost feel healthy! Almost.

Add a salty, punchy note to your Margarita with these tips

One of the hot trends in home cocktails at the moment might sound a bit baffling: the Pickle Margarita. But according to Patrick Pistolesi, master mixologist at NIO Cocktails, adding a pickle to your tequila drinks makes perfect sense.

“The reason pickle works so well with a Margarita is due to the complimentary flavors the tequila and pickle offer," Pistolesi explains. "Whilst tequila provides a bitter kick to your Margarita, the saltiness of the pickle helps to soften this, leaving you with a delicious array of punchy flavors to cleanse your palette.”

Organic Valley Oat Milk

Organic Valley, a brand known for its award-winning dairy creamers, has entered the world of oat milk creamers. Oat milk creamers have been on the rise as consumers seek more dairy-free alternatives to add creaminess to coffee. The brand's newest oat-based creamer product line contains only 30 calories per serving, adding a smooth, creamy texture that froths perfectly for lattes and cappuccinos.

Organic Valley sources its oats directly from family farms in cool, dry climates as an organic farmer-owned cooperative. The oats are grown without GMOs, toxic pesticides, or herbicides. The creamers are dairy-free, nut-free, and lactose-free. The oat-based creamer is now available in four different flavors: Vanilla, Caramel, Oatmeal Cookie, and Cinnamon Spice.
