A decanter is an essential item when it comes to completing one’s home bar. Not only does it have a functional purpose, but the right decanter can really bring the whole aesthetic of a home bar together.

On the wine side of things, decanters help to aerate wine while allowing sediment (if there is any) to fall to the bottom. On the whiskey (or rum, añejo tequilas, etc) side of things, they don’t serve the same purpose, but we’ll be damned if putting a bottle of our favorite liquor into a decanter doesn’t make it look like it’s ready to be named Time’s Person of the Year. For this reason, we here The Manual are teaming up with the

luxury decanter brand Royal Decanters

to give away one decanter set to three lucky winners!

Basically, we want you to have the best-looking bar on the block, and all you have to do is fill out a form. It literally could not be easier than that. (Okay, you could inherit a vintage decanter from someone, but then there is probably going to be the crushing emotion of the loss of a loved one attached to that decanter, which will still make it more difficult overall. We don’t want that and we don’t want that for you. We’re all about having fun here, hence the chance to win a decanter for free.)

Each winner will get to choose from one of three Royal Decanter gift sets. The sets are the Skull-Shaped Glass Whiskey Decanter ($60), the Etched Globe Whiskey Decanter (a $95 value), and the Sailing Ship Whiskey Decanter ($120). Each decanter holds at least 750mL of liquid (the globe holds an additional 100mL) and comes on a wooden base, which also serves as a home for the four glasses that come in each set. The decanters are lead-free, ensuring that you don’t have to worry about the spirit that you’re putting into it. The decanters are made to last, too, but if they don’t, each comes with a lifetime warranty.

Woodinville

The well-known Washington State-based distillery Woodinville Whiskey Co. just released its oldest rye whiskey to date. Matured just a shade under a decade, the whiskey was launched this past weekend at the distillery.
Woodinville 100% Rye Aged 8 Years

As the name suggests, this is a rye whiskey boasting a mash bill of 100% rye. Grown, distilled, and matured in Washington State, this complex rye whiskey was matured for a minimum of eight whole years. The Rye was grown at the nearby Omlin family farm in Quincy, Washington. After harvesting, it’s shipped across the mountains to Woodinville, where it’s milled, mashed, and distilled.

Oaklore

North Carolina-based Oaklore Distilling Co. recently announced the launch of a new, limited-edition whiskey that fans of unique barrel-aging won’t want to miss. The latest addition to its Oaklore Story Series, Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey is a 92-proof rye whiskey finished in barrels that previously held port wine.
Oaklore Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey

This memorable whiskey begins with a mash bill of 70% rye, 20% corn, and 10% malted barley (it’s the same as the brand’s signature 6-year-old straight rye whiskey). It’s first matured for six years in a combination of char #2 and char #3 new, white oak barrels. It’s then transferred to ex-port wine barrels for another twelve to eighteen months of finishing.

Coffee molds: What’s really inside your coffee?
All about mycotoxins
Whole beans and ground coffee

Imagine you open a package of cheese from your fridge to find something green and fuzzy growing on it. Your immediate reaction (beyond saying "ew") probably involves throwing it in the trash immediately. Molds on foods come in all varieties, yet not all are visible to the naked eye, such as mycotoxins.

Coffee molds are one example, which could be living on your coffee beans without you even knowing. These toxic compounds are odorless and invisible and can only be identified through lab testing. Do you know what's inside your cup of coffee? Most of us don't know if our coffee has mold. Here's what you should know about coffee molds and how to avoid them.
