The 100 Year Pants Are Designed to Get You Through the Century

Adventure and clothing brand Vollebak has released a pair of 100 Year Pants following the success of the 100 Year Hoodie, which debuted a few seasons ago.

Claiming to have created a garment that can last for a century is pretty bold, but Vollebak is confident its over-engineered, military-grade pants are the pair you might just have for the rest of your (presumably) long life. Also, they’re fireproof.

That’s right. Fireproof.

Crafted from a material originally created to enable military members to literally walk through fire, when the pants come into contact with a flame, the pants’ special middle layer expands to 1,000-times (and looks a lot like a time-lapse of plants growing). This middle layer also provides a protective barrier to keep you cool, even when the environment is decidedly not. What’s better, each seam in the pant is positioned to move with your legs, whether you’re scaling a mountainside, bungee jumping from your favorite bridge, or simply lounging around after a long day of work.

“Building a pair of pants that can survive 100 years forces you to ask different questions during the design and development process,” says Vollebak co-founder Steve Tidball. “We spent two years exploring questions ranging how and where pants break down and fail after extended wear, to what challenges and situations clothing might need to respond to in the next century. The design of our 100 Years Pants draws on insights from clothing worn by astronauts and military personnel, as well as the newest material technologies.”

Aside from their staunch durability, the 100 Year Pants are ready for all sorts of outdoor adventures. With a comfortable and soft fit, wind- and water-repellent protection, and abrasion resistance, as well as a surprising amount of breathability and flexibility, Vollebak’s pants have taken usual failure points into account in order to give you a fault-free pair of britches. The 100 Year Pants are finished off with stainless steel accents, ankle protection, large zipped leg vents, and a total of five pockets.

It retails at $645, which considering its lifespan and protection, is really nothing to argue about. The 100 Year Pants are so popular, in fact, that some of the sizes in its first release have sold out already.

Garmin Instinct 3

Garmin presents the new Instinct 3 collection of tactical watches with advanced tactical functionalities to enhance the user experience. It features three watches—a 45mm solar version, a 50 mm solar option, and a 45 mm AMOLED piece. The solar variants are designed to offer unlimited battery power to tackle the toughest outdoor expeditions. A bigger screen means more surface area for solar energy.

While the battery goes a long way in providing an enhanced user experience, the watch’s durability is also quite crucial, so the brand upgraded the bezel and reinforced it for multiple activities. The solar functionality is also more powerful than that featured on the previous model. It’s about five times more efficient than the Instinct 2 feature.
