From the farm, to the cidery, to your doorstep, The Shacksbury Cider Club has all your cider needs covered with its easy subscription service.

It seems subscription boxes are all the rage these days. You can get curated boxes of everything from grooming products to dog toys to dress socks sent straight to your doorstep.

Instead of simply helping you accumulate more stuff, Shacksbury’s Cider Club will send you a selection of delicious ciders that are meant to be consumed and shared. Each quarter you have the option of receiving a 3- or 6-bottle shipment of ciders culled from small batch cideries. This is a great way to expand your general cider knowledge and palate, and an opportunity to taste brands not already distributed in your state. If you’re the entertaining type, these large-format bottles are perfect for parties and tasting clubs.

Last quarter’s box included Shacksbury’s own Ticonderoga from its Barrel Reserve program. Ticonderoga is a dry, spicy cider aged in rye and madeira barrels with apples from Vermont and the United Kingdom. Packaged alongside it was a brisk, sparking cider from Spanish makers Petritegi and a vintage bottle of Chapel Pleck, a perry from Once Upon a Tree. The boxes are well packed and include information cards about the ciders and pairing suggestions.

In addition to receiving the cider deliveries, club members also get a 10% discount from Shacksbury for online or tasting room purchases, access to cellar sales, invitations to special events and the occasional surprise. Fifteen percent of the membership costs are put back into Shacksbury’s Lost Apple Project designed to revive the growth of cider-worthy apples in Vermont.

Shacksbury Cider Club memberships are only available in select US states. The club’s pricing is set at $55 per quarter for a three bottle shipment or $100 for a six bottle delivery, plus shipping. Gift subscriptions are available.

Nearing 8,000 breweries, choosing the best beer in the U.S. is hard. For those breweries that are distributing, it can be a challenge to stand out on the shelf, so having a beer can design that is memorable is incredibly important.
The labels need to stand out enough to attract a consumer, but in all reality, they also need to build brand awareness with that consumer, at least enough to attract repeat business.
In picking top labels, it’s hard to shy away from Brooklyn Brewery’s iconic, Milton Glaser-designed ‘B’ logo that adorns its labels. It’s also hard to dismiss legendary craft beers that are now essentially mainstream brands, like Sierra Nevada, Stone, and New Belgium.
There are certainly beautiful cans out there worthy of praise, but that don’t get the brand idea across. Others are sexist or straight copyright violations (and we can all agree at this point that those just need to go away). The beer world is rife with plenty of examples good and bad. If you’ve never heard of Copperworks Distilling Company, now is the time to get on the proverbial bandwagon. Opened in 2013, this distillery is located in downtown Seattle. But, even with a tasting room and gift shop, it’s more than just a tourist destination. This award-winning outfit is well-known for its series of gins, vodka, and its small batch American single malt whiskey.

Its prowess in crafting American single malt whiskey is what we find most exciting. That’s why we were very interested to hear that the distillery was releasing not one, not two, but three new single malt whiskeys. They are Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey Single Cask No. 22-2 as well as Release 049 and Release 050.

If you’re not an avid Irish whiskey drinker, you might not know about the whiskey prowess of The Midleton Distillery. Located in County Cork, Ireland, this Pernod Ricard-owned distillery has been crafting award-winning whiskeys since it was opened back in 1975. While the brand is known for myriad, limited-release, exceptional whiskeys, there are few more well-known than Midleton Very Rare.

Recently, the distillery announced the fifth chapter in its Silent Distillery Collection. Referred to as Chapter Five, this single-pot still whiskey isn’t the type of expression you’ll grab at your local liquor store. That’s because it’s Midleton’s oldest whiskey to date at 49 years old.
