Will there be a sequel to ‘Barbie?’

A script could be in development for a sequel, but the deal is far from a sure thing.

Barbie was one of the biggest hits in recent memory, and it was also a massive bet by star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig. Now, it seems like Robbie and Gerwig are coming back for more. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach, who co-wrote the script for the first movie, have landed on an idea for a sequel, and they’ve already brought it to Warner Bros.

The reporting suggests that this story is in “early stages” and that no official deal is done yet. Reps for both the studio and the filmmakers also pushed back on the report. “There is no legitimacy to this reporting,” Gerwig and Baumbach’s rep claimed. The representative for Warner Bros. was even more succinct: “THR’s reporting is inaccurate.”

If the reporting is accurate, it means that a Barbie sequel could be coming at some point down the road. What’s also clear, though, is that this deal is far from done, and even if Gerwig and Baumbach have come to the studio with an idea, it’s still in its most nascent stages.

Warner Bros. would likely jump at the chance to make a sequel to Barbie, but the question is whether a sequel could recapture the magic that made the first film such a phenomenon. Gerwig would be on board to script this new film, but there is no indication she would return as the director, and it’s also unclear whether Robbie, who produced the first film and recruited Gerwig to write and direct, is even aware that this is happening. For now, then, a sequel still feels far from a sure thing.

The ‘Yellowstone’ sequel is putting together a pretty excellent cast

Yellowstone has been such a massive show that it only made sense for us to get as many spin-offs of it as possible. The series, which tells the story of a ranching family in Montana and their struggles to maintain control over their land, became one of the biggest shows on TV and then sort of imploded after star Kevin Costner said he would not be returning.

Now, plans are in place for a sequel series to Yellowstone called The Madison. Now, we're learning about all of the big names that have been attached to this new project from Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan. Michelle Pfeiffer joined the cast in early August, and Suits star Patrick J. Adams is now set to join her. Adams is best known for playing Mike Ross on the legal drama, and here, he'll play Russell McIntosh. The description of his character suggests that McIntosh simply followed the life path that was set before him.

Everyone keeps wondering when Tom Cruise will finally slow down. Thanks to Top Gun: Maverick and a slew of Mission: Impossible movies, Cruise's reputation for doing whatever it takes to entertain audiences has only improved. Now, one of Cruise's frequent collaborators, Doug Liman, is suggesting that we could be getting a sequel to an undersung Cruise classic from a decade ago.

According to Liman during an interview with Collider, Edge of Tomorrow, which stars Cruise and Emily Blunt, could still get a sequel.

The 28 Days Later sequel is coming sooner than you might think

While it hasn't been quite 28 years, 28 Years Later is coming soon. The sequel, which follows up on 28 Days Later (a horror classic) and 28 Weeks Later and sees director Danny Boyle reuniting with Days star Cillian Murphy, has concluded its principle photography. Alex Garland, who wrote the script for that original film, has also returned to write the screenplay here. This time, though, the film boasts a much bigger budget than the previous two installments ($60 million for Years vs. $8 million for Days and $15 million for Weeks).

The film is slated for release in June of 2025, which is 23 years after the first installment hit theaters. Although Murphy is returning as the central character, Years also includes new actors like Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, and Ralph Fiennes. At this point, little is known about the plot, but the combination of talent behind and in front of the camera suggests that this is a movie worth anticipating.
