Kneel Before Your New Porsche 911 King — The 700hp GT2 RS Has Arrived

Over time, the Porsche 911 has become one of the fastest cars you can buy. Each year, acceleration figures drop and top speeds rise, thanks to the German automaker’s constant tweaking of its flat-six cylinder engine.

Recently, Porsche unveiled its most powerful 911 ever, the Turbo S Exclusive. Now, hardly three weeks later, we’re looking at the new Carrera king. At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche unveiled its all-new 911 GT2 RS with a staggering 700 horsepower and gobs of track-focused hardware.

Despite all the insane cars that turn up at Goodwood each year, the 911 GT2 RS commanded a tremendous amount of attention – and for good reason. In addition to claiming the title of most powerful 911, the GT2 RS is expected to be the fastest Porsche ever to lap the Nurburgring – hopefully besting the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and its lap time of 6 minutes and 52 seconds.

To manage such a feat, the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will rely on its 3.8-liter flat-six cylinder engine, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and aerodynamic bodywork. 700hp and 553 pound-feet of torque are sent to the rear wheels, rocketing the GT2 RS to 60 mph in a claimed 2.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 211 mph. Given the GT2 RS makes 120 more horsepower than the 911 Turbo S (which proclaims similar acceleration figures) we’d say Porsche’s is underrating the GT2 RS a bit.

Helping the GT2 stay cool is a new water injection system, and keeping it planted is a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with 325-section width at the rear (the widest rubber ever fit to a production 911). Porsche will also offer a $31,000 Weissach package that cuts 40 pounds from the car via carbon anti-roll bars, magnesium wheels, and a carbon-fiber trunk lid.

There’s a good chance Porsche has already sold out of the new GT2 RS, but if you’re interested and have $294,250 lying around, you’d better act fast.

Former Stig Ben Collins talks about the car he's just set a record time in
Ben Collins stood next to a Praga Bohemia

Ben Collins has a respectable racing career, movie credits, and a successful YouTube channel to his name. Despite all of this, he’s most famous for a role that was meant to be anonymous. Collins played the part of Top Gear’s iconic tamed racing driver, “The Stig,” between 2003 and 2010.

Despite hanging up the white racing suit, Collins still knows the Top Gear Test Track like the back of his hand, which is useful as he’s just broken another record on it. The accomplished driver officially set the fastest time in an internal combustion engine (ICE) car while behind the wheel of a Praga Bohemia. The Manual recently caught up with Collins to discuss his record-breaking lap, and the vehicle that propelled him to it.
