shape up for summer shapeup
The warm weather of summer is finally here. There’s plenty to be excited about, but a lot of guys feel like they still need a little work before hitting the beach. Shedding those extra pounds and getting toned can be a tricky venture, especially given all the fun that summer can bring. Still, there are a few things that all guys can do to ensure that they get back to the fit shape they’re looking for.

It’s time to shape up for summer. Here are a few tips to push you in the right direction.

  1. Make the Gym a Priority

Hitting the gym on a regular basis can be easier said than done. Everyone knows that it’s a relative cakewalk once you get there, but the hardest part is actually getting off the couch and leaving. Consistency is key with any fitness routine, and if you only find yourself motivated to hit the gym once or twice a week, you’re not likely to see any progress. A lot of people find that the best time to hit the gym is before work, and if you can make the time, you’ll be ready to take on the workday with an entirely new attitude. The bottom line, though, is to find a time that works best for you each day and stick to it at least five days per week.

  1. Stop Partying So Hard

Summer is no doubt a great time for partying, but that endless supply of beer is going to add up in your midsection. People often wonder why they’re gaining weight while maintaining normal eating habits. Everyone is different, but the culprit can often be found in sweet, sweet alcohol. As much fun as you’re having, you’re never going to get into the kind of shape you’re looking for if every single night is a party. Try to restrict your drinking to 1-2 nights per week tops, as otherwise, you’ll be fighting against the tide to keep the pounds off.

  1. Maintain the Right Diet

“Dieting” is one of the worst things that someone who is trying to lose weight should ever consider. The success rates for crash diets and the like are extremely low, often resulting in people binging on calories just to regain some kind of stability. Instead, you should be focusing on eating healthy, energy-rich foods that won’t leave you feeling as if you’ve just taken in an entire bowling ball. Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the plethora of fresh vegetables that are finally available once again, and as long as you avoid eating fast food, you’ll already be on the right track. A word of advice — stick to foods that contain ingredients you’re actually familiar with, avoiding laundry lists of scientific words at all costs.

Getting into shape is a process that doesn’t necessarily happen overnight, but every day of progress counts. The sooner you can get started, the closer you’ll be to finally getting into shape and enjoying the summer to its fullest.

Don't sweat it: The no-fuss guide to removing sweat stains from shirts you love
how to remove sweat stains

Nothing can bring a grown man to tears faster than a massive sweat stain on an otherwise perfectly good shirt. It’s inevitable. The “investment” white dress shirt that always brings you luck on new client meetings is suddenly showing pit stains. The basic T-shirt that you bought specifically for its minimalist appeal gets a grease mark right on the chest. The best chinos you’ve only worn once get a grass stain from one slip in the backyard. Knowing how to remove sweat stains from shirts is essential.

Sure, you could just throw them away and buy new clothes, but these days disposable fashion is getting a bad rap, and dusting off a little thrift ingenuity seems downright trendy. We checked in with the American Cleaning Institute, and asked a chemical engineer for a few easy-to-use pointers.

Meggings? Yep, Matador Meggings Redefined Men’s Leggings for the Male Anatomy
Matador Meggigngs worn while working out in two styles.

This content was produced in partnership with Matador.
Like all great origin stories, Matador Meggings — which earned renown for its customized men’s leggings so aptly named "meggings" — was born out of necessity. While some may disagree that men need leggings, and may even declare their point proudly, the success of the brand proves otherwise. Valentine Aseyo, Matador’s founder, quickly realized that there was a dearth of leggings and form-fitting wear acceptable for men to sport out in public, especially if they didn’t want to put their bits on display. So, naturally, he created Matador, an innovative men's athleisure brand primarily known for its men's leggings specifically designs for the male anatomy and featuring a no-VPL (visible penis line) modesty pad concealing the groin department, multiple pockets, a t-shirt and towel loop at the back, an inner drawstring, and high performance sweat-wicking silky fabric. They offer dozens of bold colors and wild prints! And the rest is history!

We’ll get to the “why” in a bit, but what you need to know upfront is that they’re comfortable, convenient, and stylish — thanks to varied and eccentric designs. Moreover, Matador now offers a host of other clothing options, including matching tops so you can look your best while working out, staying healthy, or even just relaxing. Too hot for leggings? Well, you'll be happy to know they also offer compression shorts for warmer weather or indoor fitness classes. You can check out the current selection below, or keep reading for a deep dive into Matador and what they have to offer.
