Like many menswear items that have long been considered wardrobe staples, the tie hasn’t escaped deliberations about its relevance in fashion. In fact, as is the case right now, many employees worldwide are reemerging from their work-from-home environments and questioning the need for specific office attire. But the debate surrounding ties isn’t anything new. Like suits, the humble necktie has, over time, been branded dead as often as it has been revived on runways by fashion gatekeepers.

Despite everything it’s had thrown its way, the tie continues to be ubiquitous among men from all walks of life. The truth is — and you might not like this — at some point or another, whether it’s asked of you at work or indicated on the dress code, you’ll probably be required to tie on a tie.

The great news is that menswear is transforming as we’ve never seen before. Outdated rules that once dictated every minute detail about when and how items should be worn are finally being thrown out. In short, where clothing is concerned, anything goes (Unless, of course, a dress code explicitly asks that you not wear specific attire).

And so, the same logic applies to ties. No matter your style preference, personality, or even the occasion you’re dressing for, there are endless tie options to suit every type of person — and budget. The most important takeaways are to know what you like, how much you’re willing to spend, whether what you prefer seems appropriate given the dress code and/or setting, and then, of course, allow yourself to have some fun when it comes to shopping around for this iconic neckwear.

If you love ties, welcome. But for those who find it a bit more challenging to find the joy in sporting one, here’s our selection of the best ties for men to help convince you why this accessory remains an essential part of your wardrobe.

Todd Snyder Navy Knit Tie with Red Stripes

Knit ties were the talk of the town in the 50s and have since established themselves as a menswear staple. Whether you are looking for something to wear to the office and elevate your status among the most powerful in the building or looking for something to throw on with your dress shirt for a Zoom call, there is a tie perfect for you. Start with these eight options of men’s best ties, and you will have the most stylish year of your life in 2023.

Mark cut his teeth in the men’s style world when he sold suits first at box stores such as Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank. He then spent time as a style consultant, where he helped men find the image they were looking for through tailoring and confidence-building. He thrived when he began diving into the psychology of men’s style, developing the mindset that fashion is what you wear and style is how you wear it. He transitioned into style journalism writing for Real Men, Real Style before finding a home with The Manual, where he broadened his scope to travel, grooming, and mindset (where you can find his work on Gent’s Cafe). He is also working on novels in the thriller genre (bang, bang shoot ’em ups inspired by Vince Flynn, Kyle Mills, Brad Thor, and Jack Carr). He is a huge movie buff, and you can find his work in that space on Looper. And if you ever run into him on the street, you’re likely going to get pulled into conversations about style, movies, or his fanatic romanticism of the game of baseball.   Read Full Bio

Overland Sheepskin is taking us back to the 70s and 80s with this year’s vintage look
Overland Sheepskin Co

A few years ago, I got the chance to jet off to Santa Fe and explore the mountains in a Jeep. Off-roading in some of the most beautiful country I have ever been lucky enough to view. When I was there, I hopped in a car and left the town center to head to Taos, a small outpost seemingly in the middle of nowhere. What I found was a flagship store looking the same as it did half a century ago. Attached to it was a restaurant and a few rooms to stay in. Why the interest? Because Overland Sheepskin Co. became more than a company selling coats to the people showing up in the mountains to ski, or explore. It became a center of a community. That community grew until the outerwear was known for its quality and was dubbed the King of the Mountain Towns.

Nowadays, when I think of them, I see a mountain sheriff keeping the peace. I see Robert Redford in the wilderness. I see a culture of excellence. This weekend, Overland dropped a new collection of their vintage pieces harkening back to the beginning days of their craftsmanship. The 70s and 80s return in this twelve-piece collection.

A DECADE of &SONS chronicled in a new collection
&SONS

A decade ago, Phil James had a problem. He couldn’t find anything he wanted to wear on the clothing racks. There were big names everywhere in 2016. Names that had been generational legends for years. But, no matter how hard he looked, he just couldn’t find the clothing he truly wanted to wear. So, he decided to do what any rational person would do when they have nothing to wear: He started his own business. &SONS was born, and after ten years of providing some of the best British workwear, DECADE is a collection that celebrates what he and his team have done on their journey.

I have always been drawn to the marketing side of the brand. It makes sense; James has experience in his career that predates &SONS, as a marketing photographer. So, no wonder all the images looked amazing. Noe, the new collection looks back on that experience and the rising name he has built.
