A DECADE of &SONS chronicled in a new collection

The 10-piece collection looks back on a decade of craftsmanship

A decade ago, Phil James had a problem. He couldn’t find anything he wanted to wear on the clothing racks. There were big names everywhere in 2016. Names that had been generational legends for years. But, no matter how hard he looked, he just couldn’t find the clothing he truly wanted to wear. So, he decided to do what any rational person would do when they have nothing to wear: He started his own business. &SONS was born, and after ten years of providing some of the best British workwear, DECADE is a collection that celebrates what he and his team have done on their journey.

I have always been drawn to the marketing side of the brand. It makes sense; James has experience in his career that predates &SONS, as a marketing photographer. So, no wonder all the images looked amazing. Noe, the new collection looks back on that experience and the rising name he has built.

“I remember looking through the camera on that first shoot and, for the first time, properly seeing &SONS in front of me. – Phil James, Founder, &SONS

A 10-Piece Celebration

The lifeblood of &SONS is in what James calls the uniform: a raw Henley, chambray shirt, selvedge denim, wool peacoat, work boots and Bakerboy cap. Since he perfected those designs, other big pieces drove the brand forward, and what remains now is a British workwear brand that keeps the working class looking elevated enough that the other half wants to live in the style. The collection includes all of the original uniform:

  • Henley
  • Chambray Shirt
  • Selvedge Denim
  • Wool peacoat
  • Workboots
  • Baker’s Boy hat

Garments are designed to be used and worn hard rather than preserved, with fabrics and finishes chosen for the way they soften, fade, and develop character over time. DECADE brings those ideas together in one anniversary collection.

The best non-alcoholic fall beers to celebrate Sober October
Deschutes

Dry January might be the most popular month for taking a break from alcohol, but Sober October is a close second. If you’re spending this month sans alcohol and you’re getting tired of simply drinking sparkling water, there are options aplenty, especially if you’re usually a beer drinker.

If you didn’t know it already, the non-alcoholic beer world has improved a lot in the last decade. When I first started writing about alcohol twenty years ago, I wrote an article where I taste-tested NA beers and the results were fairly brutal. While I won’t name the beers, pretty much all were fizzy, yellow, and at best fairly flavorless. In essence, they didn’t really taste like beer. That’s definitely not the same today. It’s a whole new world of non-alcoholic beer.

Luminox adds a new chronograph to the Carbon Seal Series
Luminox

Luminox began a long-standing relationship with one of the most elite special forces teams in the world in 1992 when they began making tactical watches for the Navy SEALs. Ever since, they have been the brand on the front lines (or behind them is probably the more appropriate statement) of all of the major conflicts across the globe. The team at Luminox elevated the SEAL watches with the Master Carbon SEAL collection which uses a stronger version of the brand’s CARBONOX. A long-bar carbon fiber compound three times lighter than titanium and twice as strong as standard CARBONOX. They are deepening the collection with a new chronograph, the new 3880.

“The connection to the Navy SEALs is both a legacy and a responsibility. From the very beginning, our watches have been designed to perform under the toughest conditions. That expectation continues to shape everything we do—not only for SEAL teams, but also for adventurers around the world who rely on their gear when pushing their limits.” – Pierrick Marcoux, Group Product Director at Luminox

Hockerty is prepping us for the weather changes with their new tech fabrics
Hockerty

Wearing a suit is about putting your best foot forward. It is about walking into a room and everyone knowing before they ever speak to you that you are the one they need. The guy for the job. The trustworthy man. The one who deserves the respect without demanding it. It is the whole purpose of dressing for success. It is the reason that your first impression is so important. So, what happens when your image is ruined by things outside your control? Do you lose the job? Is your trustworthiness in question? What happens to the respect? It is better not to find out. Prepare yourself.

So, of course you can wear an umbrella to protect you from the rain. But that doesn’t protect you from the guy spilling his coffee on you. It doesn’t protect you from the car splashing you as it drives by. Instead, you need to invest in tech fabric. The kind moisture doesn’t soak into, but rolls off. That is where Hockerty’s new collection comes in. The tech fabrics they now offer are for the guy on the move.
