A few years ago, I got the chance to jet off to Santa Fe and explore the mountains in a Jeep. Off-roading in some of the most beautiful country I have ever been lucky enough to view. When I was there, I hopped in a car and left the town center to head to Taos, a small outpost seemingly in the middle of nowhere. What I found was a flagship store looking the same as it did half a century ago. Attached to it was a restaurant and a few rooms to stay in. Why the interest? Because Overland Sheepskin Co. became more than a company selling coats to the people showing up in the mountains to ski, or explore. It became a center of a community. That community grew until the outerwear was known for its quality and was dubbed the King of the Mountain Towns.
Nowadays, when I think of them, I see a mountain sheriff keeping the peace. I see Robert Redford in the wilderness. I see a culture of excellence. This weekend, Overland dropped a new collection of their vintage pieces harkening back to the beginning days of their craftsmanship. The 70s and 80s return in this twelve-piece collection.

The assortment includes rancher coats, two vests, including a patchwork style, and other classic sheepskin silhouettes. Plush collars, warm earthy tones, and distinctive paneling bring the collection’s early designs into focus, offering a look at the outerwear styles that shaped Overland’s roots in the American West. When the company opened its doors in 1973, nobody knew they would become the premiere provider of mountain warmth and style. Whether you are looking for something new and plugged into the styles of today, or you want something that will look worn in over four decades of use, Overland Sheepskin’s new Vintage Collection will fill the void in your coat closet.
