When it comes to classic silhouettes, it’s hard to beat a canvas upper and vulcanized rubber outsole. Add on a tough toe-box and minimal branding, and you’ve got the Jack Purcell, the shoe that inspired every canvas sneaker since 1935. For 2015, Converse has reworked the look with new functionality and comfort, without touching the iconic styling.

The two-piece sneaker is all about bringing high quality details to a simple and lovable design, this time around with embroidered tongues, stamped heel and outsole logos, and a signature label inside so you know your pair is genuine. The smile on the toe box is always there looking up at you, with tough but lightweight rubber and molded foxing construction so it doesn’t weigh you down.

A herringbone textured outsole is just the trick for keeping your grip on the court or the sidewalks, and a vented upper keeps your feet cool even in the summer heat. In an even more modern move, the Jack Purcell is upgraded with an Ortholite footbed and Nike Zoom Air built into the sole. There’s no visible air unit, but you’ll really feel the difference when you have to run to catch the bus, or you’re on your feet for a few hours.

When the new Converse Jack Purcell Signature Sneakers drop, they’ll be available initially in three colors: White, Black, and Mason. They’re all subdued, natural colors that are perfect for the transition from winter to spring, but expect new and exciting takes on the look as the weather gets warmer. There are already a few variations available on the standard model, with brushed textile and smooth suede uppers, if you’re looking for something a little more daring.
