The Kilbeggan Tailgater’s Toddy

It’s hard to believe, but autumn is staring us right in the face. And it seems like just yesterday that we at The Manual were telling you the right thing to throw on your grill for Labor Day. Now, the nights and mornings are getting cooler, the first sweaters of the season are being pulled on, and we’re already two weeks deep into football season!

Because football season is getting into full gear that means at some point you’ll be attending a tailgate party for your favorite team. You and your buddy may be tailgating with tickets in your pockets; you and a group of friends might be sitting in the stadium parking lot with camping chairs and a cooler; or, you could be sitting in your driveway, miles away from the game and pretending you’re there—either way, you are going to need something to drink.

That’s why we have to recommend the Kilbeggan Tailgater’s Toddy. As the weather gets colder, and you’re standing outside in your replica jersey and jeans, you won’t always want to reach for a beer; that’s where the Toddy comes in. Made with Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey (Ireland’s oldest distillery), a touch of DeKuyper Buttershots (one of the standards in butterscotch liqueur), some hot water, and a stick or two of cloves, this drink will warm you up and fill you with the team spirit you need to have a superior tailgating experience.

All you need to do is bring the water to a boil, mix in the whiskey and the butterscotch liqueur, throw in the cloves, and you are all set. You can bring this hot cocktail with you to the game, or concoct it in the parking lot when you’re grilling with your friends. Either way, it’ll be a crowd pleaser.

Now, with drink in hand, welcome the fall and enjoy your football.

Fall is a great time for flavored whiskey
Glass of whiskey with ice cubes served on wooden planks

When it comes to fall flavors, there’s nothing bigger and more in-your-face than pumpkin spice. You’ll find it everywhere, from candles to lattes to cereal and even gum. But it’s also found its way into the world of flavored whiskey.

And while we’d definitely try a glass of pumpkin spice-flavored whiskey this fall, there’s a whole world of other flavored whiskeys that taste like autumn in a glass beyond the popular spicy gourd.
