Gorki Apartments, Berlin

As overlooked destinations continue to drift onto our radars, Berlin has been a constant. A cultural hub that remains appealing year after year. You can imagine our delight then, when we heard of the opening of Gorki, a new development in the eternally cool Mitte district, housing 35 bespoke apartments and two soon to be open penthouses.

Gorki was created by esteemed interior designer Sandra Pauquet and architect Kim Wang. Together, the creative duo has created 35 versions of dreamy zeitgeist living, each with its own personality that wouldn’t look out of place on the finest interior inspiration tumblrs. White walls, parquet floors, raindance showers, complimentary Pelago bicycles, laptop safes and Nespresso coffee machines are just some of the mod-cons and living luxuries that feature within each pad.

Discretion is intrinsic to the concept. Instead of being numbered, each apartment is dubbed a fictitious name and guests are invited to travel under the radar with a pseudonym- equally ideal for celebs on tour or for those pretending to be a celeb on tour. Ultimately, these mod chambers have been built with long-term residents in mind- each apartment even has its own mailbox- but if you’re craving a short-term stint living as a native Berliner we highly recommend booking in. Just brace yourself when it comes to leaving…we have a feeling you’ll want to ditch your old life and stay put.

Greece will implement a new tax targeting cruise ship passengers visiting the islands of Santorini and Mykonos, as a part of a broader strategy to combat overtourism during the peak summer months. Announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the €20 ($22) cruise ship tax fee aims to alleviate the growing pressure that mass tourism has placed on the islands’ infrastructure and environment.
Overtourism in Greece

Overtourism has become a growing concern in Greece, particularly in popular holiday spots like Santorini and Mykonos. In Santorini, local residents and protesters have voiced their concerns, calling for limits on the overwhelming number of visitors that flood the island, much like similar protests in Venice and Barcelona. Santorini, which has a population of just 20,000 permanent residents, faces the risk of losing its charm and environmental balance due to the sheer volume of tourists.

Denmark, Sweden, and more: these countries offer the best quality of life
Scandinavian countries took the lead in this year's rankings.
Denmark

US News & World Report recently released its 2024 Best Countries rankings, and several nations are standing out for offering an exceptional quality of life. The rankings, developed in collaboration with WPP and the Wharton School, surveyed global citizens between March and May 2024, analyzing a range of factors such as job opportunities, affordability, income equality, political stability, and public services like education and healthcare.

Topping this year’s list is Denmark, which climbed to first place after being ranked fourth in 2023. Known for its high taxes, with some residents paying nearly 50% of their income, Denmark balances this with universal benefits like free healthcare and higher education. Additionally, the Scandinavian country’s reputation for safety and strong public services has made it an attractive destination for both locals and visitors.
