You Can Own Riverrun Castle From ‘Game of Thrones’ (Well, Part of It Anyway)

From this Irish mansion with a full go-kart track to the stately and historical Knockdrin Castle, unique real estate offerings in Ireland is hot, hot, hot — and it’s about to get hotter with the recent announcement that Rivverrun Castle is for sale.

Well, not the real Riverrun, because that’s the fictional home of House Tully, found in George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. We’re talking about Riverrun’s real-life stand-in, Gosford Castle, which played the exterior part of the riparian palace during the filming of the HBO version of ASOIFGame of Thrones.

Yes, you can own a part of the famous fortress — but only a part. After being constructed in the mid-1800s by the second Earl of Gosford, the castle was used as a World War II prisoner-of-war camp. The land around the castle late became a conservation forest for several decades before returning to military work during The Troubles. In the modern era, the property was a hotel until 2006 when Gosford Castle came under the care and purview of Gosford Castle Development Limited.

Maison Real Estate

According to Maison Real Estate, Gosford Castle Development Limited “put forward a £4 million proposal to restore the Grade A listed building into 23 luxury residences. The restoration was undertaken by artisans and craftsmen with a focus on retaining the character and historic integrity of the castle. Particular care was taken to use existing features such as staircases and vaulted ceilings and even to use original color schemes wherever possible. These apartments are extremely popular and command great interest when they are placed on the market.”

So, what do you get for the individual £500,000 (or nearly $640,000) parcel? For starters, you get 15-plus bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, 10 “reception” rooms, and no heating; a few offer rooftop gardens But those rooms don’t necessarily have to be all for you, especially if real estate investment is the aim of your game. Instead, feel free to divide up your portion of the castle into six separate apartments (as suggested by Gosford Castle Development), each of which would offer 3,500 square feet of living space.

Your slice of Riverrun is definitely going to need some restoration and rejuvenation, but when it’s all over, you can proudly say that you own a piece of both real and cinematic history.

Why you should take advantage of this free humidor deal from Famous Smoke Shop
Cigars need to stay humidified, or they'll dry out. Sure, you can rehydrate a dry cigar, but by the time you do, it will have lost all its natural oils and complex flavor. It will never be as good as it originally was, and that's a bummer.

The 12 best small cigars I’ve tried and tested in 2024
man smoking small cigar by engin-akyurt unsplash

Big cigars take a while to smoke. We're talking hours for some of the largest stogies out there unless you're puffing too often -- which you shouldn't do. But the cigar world is vast, and not only does that mean a ton of different cigar blends, from Maduro and Corojo to Nicaraguan and Cuban-made, but there are also a plethora of sizes from small to big. You don't have to buy, smoke, or even try a massive stogie, and I would argue against doing so for something like the . There are cigars much bigger than that. I can't imagine that would be a relaxing smoke, if at all enjoyable. Shrinking things down is possible, and I'm not referring to a Robusto or petite size either. I mean closer to a cigarillo. If you're looking for something short and sweet but packed with loads of great flavor, here are the best small cigars I've tried and tested in 2024.
The best small cigars tried and tested in 2024

Most of the time, if I want a quick cigar or something smaller, I'll reach for a nub or Robusto size. I prefer a full-bodied cigar and small cigars typically don't provide that. However, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a smaller cigar or cigarillo occasionally. My top recommend is the . They are fantastic. Here is a little more detail about all the small cigars I've tried and loved in 2024.

Liam Neeson's career has been one of the most fascinating in Hollywood history. This Irish screen legend towers over his peers literally (he's 6'4'') and metaphorically (he's starred in Academy Award winners and blockbusters alike.) Neeson started out as a supporting actor in the 1980s before supplanting some of the biggest names in the industry. His rise to first-team status in the 1990s can be attributed to his unforgettable performance in Schindler's List.
