The all black watch is all over.  Ranging in price from a couple hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, sometimes there can be very little to tell them apart.  High end brands like Audemars Piguet, Hublot, and Girard Perregaux take the all black theme to the top of the market.  Placing their highest complications in ceramic and forged carbon cases has created some amazing timepieces, but sometimes it can be hard to tell them apart from the mall kiosk all black watches.  One all black watch that places itself right in the middle of the all black theme is the Breitling Chronospace Automatic Chronograph Blacksteel Limited Edition.  This piece comes to the market with some design details that are able to tell it apart from the rest and still justify its price tag.

Sitting on the wrist at a sizable 46mm, this black steel Breitling chronograph has presence.  Its pronounced bi-directional rotating bezel adds a classic design feature while still keeping with the theme of a modern all black watch.  Extremely readable, the dial is able to fit large arabic numerals, chronograph subdials, and even a classic Breitling slide rule.  Not too cluttered, this pilot-esque dial is functional and sporty.  Below the dial lies a Breitling Chronometer certified Automatic chronograph movement, which is known to Brielting.

The standout feature of this piece is a not often seen mesh bracelet.  The popularity of mesh bracelets has been rising and Breitling offers many pieces on mesh.  This piece however is the first of its kind baring a black PVD steel mesh bracelet.  Precisely coated by Breitlings Blacksteel treatment, the black bracelet is extremely well made and durable even with all the small parts that make up a mesh bracelet.  For absolute ease, the bracelet has mesh links that remove for sizing just as a traditional solid link bracelet does.

It can be very tough to tell a quality all black timepiece from a cheaply made black watch.  When shopping for one, it is best to find unique design elements combined with quality parts and a durable black coating or material.  Breitling has found that middle ground with the Chronospace Automatic Chronograph Black PVD Limited Edition.  Unique and durable, this is one black timepiece worth its price tag;  $8,505.  This is a sold out limited edition, but can still be found if you look hard enough.

See more of this timepiece at Breitlings site as well as one for sale here.

Cartier Rewind on wrist

Wristwatches may be distinctly masculine pieces of hardware now, thanks to some very popular people in pop culture and in our own history adopting them. British super spy James Bond, movie stars, and athletes are the people we look up to who wear watches that catch our eye. Soldiers, cops, firefighters, and first responders wear watches they trust to ensure they can save lives. Pilots and divers created an entire industry around watches specifically designed for their vocations. And the very first pilot's watch was none other than a Cartier watch.

Alberto Santos-Dumont was a pioneer in the flight world and was one of the first people on Earth to achieve air travel. He was a competitor of the Wright Brothers, and, depending on the source, he preceded them in flight. In any case, the French celebrity went to Louis Cartier, another pioneer of his craft, and procured a square timekeeper meant for the wrist. The Cartier Santos Dumont was born. Over a century later, Cartier attended Watches and Wonders and presented the newest in the line of Santos watches, one that reverses time.
