Worn Out Wednesday – David Cormican

This week we head to Canada to interview the award winning filmmaker David Cormican. He was recently the Executive Producer on The Tall Man starring the good lookin’ Jessica Biel and he is diving into television production with Oscar winning producer Don Carmody. We took some time to talk to him in Toronto where he was just back from the Banff World Media Festival working hard. But we don’t feel sorry for him. As he told us, “Work is never that stressful when you are taking meetings in the 125 year old Fairmont at Banff Springs!”

Here is what he had to say about his cinematic style:

I am pretty much a jeans and button down sort of guy. I am super picky about my jeans and have found Jack & Jones have the perfect fit for me. They break at the right place and that is important as a hem on denim just never looks right.

As for shirts I wear a lot of English Laundry. I like the cuts and that the patterns and graphics offer a little more than your standard shirt. Since I go from on set to business meetings I need to wear something that works with a blazer so the jeans and button down work. Nobody wears a suit unless they are at the top of the studio!

For blazers I have a rack of favorites from Diesel to Ben Sherman and even H&M. I’m a sucker for jacket linings. If there is a little surprise on the inside then I am sold. I also have a huge pocket square collection. There is a tiny shop here in Toronto called H. Halpern Esquire and I buy most of mine there.

As for shoes I am a boot man. I have a pair from Replay in canvas that I have had resoled twice already. I have another pair from Steve Madden I bought at Century 21 in New York.

In my business there is always a gala or awards event to go to and for formal wear I always hit up Toronto designer Christopher Bates. He has great attention to detail and I always like supporting local people.

One article of clothing I have almost year round is my vintage leather jacket from Retro Rock Vintage Clothing in Vancouver. When it is really cold I wear a jacket from Moose Knuckles (Editor’s note: that name!)  based in Montreal.

When not working I am a big swimmer. I have a pair of Sundek’s that I wear all the time.  They are classic board shorts that are perfect for those beach days when I am in Los Angeles.

David’s latest film, Stranded with Christian Slater debuts July 26 in the US.
