Worn Out Wednesdays: Michael Tavani

When your job consists of afternoons on construction sites and evenings entertaining clients in some of New York’s coolest locations, your wardrobe definitely has to adapt.

Michael Tavani, co founder of M18 PR has got this down to a near science. M18 is based in New York and specializes in hotels, real estate and design. Some of his clients include the seriously swank NoMad hotel, the Wythe in Brooklyn and Hotel Americano as well as the Freehand in Miami (who we mentioned here).

We checked in with Mr. Tavani right after his honeymoon (congrats Michael & Meg!) to hear more about his daily style.

During the work week I am pretty consistent- blazer, shirt, jeans, dress shoes or work boots. Since I bounce between construction sites, client meetings and drinks and dinner I can’t wear anything too precious since sites tend to get messy, but I have to look presentable for later.

For blazers I was recently introduced to Brooklyn Tailors in Williamsburg. They understand cut and have a great selection of fabric. I also have several old Helmut Lang blazers I have had for years that never seem to go out of style.

APC and Levi’s Black slim cut are my go to for jeans. Things need to fit well for me, that is very important to me.

My Red Wing boots are a staple as well as are my Wolverines, which are a little less rugged when I need to look a tad more polished.

When I am dressing up a bit more I indulge  in a pair of brown suede Alden wing tips. I’m not a big fan of black and usually steer towards navy and brown.

There is a company called Norse Projects from Copenhagen who makes a great button down I wear a lot. I am also a big J.Crew classic oxford fan. For the weekends I like the single pocket tees from J.Crew and Spring Court tennis shoes. I can be found in my favorite old pair of  Gant cut off khakis when it gets really balmy. Saturdays shorts are a staple too.

I have to say I am really inspired by Ryan Gossling. Kidding! I am fortunate to work in a business surrounded by creative people, and their creations and talent are what keep me inspired. Often times the people I find most stylish are the ones who think the least about what they are wearing, but have a natural way of always looking great.

Smell your best with these great fragrances
A person spraying cologne on themselves.

You only get one chance to make a great first impression. That is why we dress nicely. That is why we groom ourselves expertly. And that is why you need to have a great cologne. You never know who you are going to meet, and you don't want to be caught in anything other than your best. You may be forgiven if your hair is a little long when you are on the trail. You may be forgiven for having a five o'clock shadow on Saturday afternoon. And you may not be punished for wearing jeans and a T-shirt at the movie theater. However, you will always be judged for not smelling good. That is why you need to invest in the best men's colognes.

Having a pleasant fragrance is more than smelling pleasant for those around you. It also attracts people to you and shows that you care about your hygiene. People will respond better and remember you fondly if your smell lingers. It is the most powerful scent tied to memory, so make sure you are remembered in 2024 with these top picks for colognes for men. We didn't go with all the big boys in the men's cologne industry. You will see one name that nearly everyone knows. But, we stuck more with the ones that you all should know. There is no Dior, no Polo, and no Gucci on this list. We didn't go for names. We went for quality fragrances and picks that will keep you remembered long after you leave.
