Well, here’s your answer. The American designer Todd Snyder has collaborated with the iconic athletic brand Champion on a new line of menswear debuting this August at Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Odin and Union Made and currently available for pre-ordering on ToddSnyder.com.

Inspired by pieces from the Champion archives and vintage photos of the New York Athletic Club, the Todd Snyder + Champion collection ranges from garment-dyed t-shirts and vintage thermal jerseys to merino wool varsity sweaters, waxed duffel coats and flannel varsity jackets. Other highlights from the 35-piece, “City Gym”-themed line include sweats, knit cargos and button-fly trousers made from jersey and trimmed in cotton twill.

Snyder gets it right, naturally. (The designer, after all, knows a thing or two about tailored casual menswear, having cut his teeth in sportswear at Ralph Lauren, Gap and J.Crew.) Colors, for example, are a rugged blend of heather grays, oatmeal and stone contrasted with crimson, vintage green and washed royal blue. Meanwhile, all the styles sport the authentic 1950’s Champion label with “T.SNYDER” stenciled in the back of each garment, reminiscent of the gym kits the designer himself used to wear in school. Says Snyder, “Champion has always symbolized quality and American style. I love the idea of mixing tailoring with their 1950’s gym-issued items. It’s really been like one extended Christmas looking through the brand’s storied past.”
